Realise this topic has been raised before, but was a definitive answer reached? From memory, there was a challenge to the equipment guarantee that existed as Fender's cover differed between the US and Europe (the UK in particular....)
My M3 had to be returned early in its life courtesy of a broken aux (or headphone) socket, and a new replacement was granted, but I've now got an intermittent fault....it keeps losing power momentarily.
It's as if you've turned it off and on again in a split second ; all the lights go out, including the 4-button footswitch, with the added pain that it returns to the 00 setting, irrespective of what patch you were using before......
Unsure whether it's still covered by the UK warranty...any idea?

In the UK you're covered by the Sale of Goods Act, which ultimately gives you more legal rights than a manufacturer warranty, so the warranty period is, legally, not critical. It's just that within the warranty period you're more likely to find the manufacturer amenable to doing repairs. Also in UK, your contract is with the retailer who sold you the product (even if it's mail order), not with the manufacturer. Ultimately, it's the retailer's responsibility to sort out any problems for you.

In general, by law goods must be "fit for purpose" and of "merchantable quality." This includes products lasting for a reasonable service life - irrespective of any warranty period. So if yours has a fault that should not reasonably have developed for that age of product, the retailer has to put it right for you (even if the product is ten years old, if it's expected service life is more than ten years). The big gotcha however is that the onus is on you to show the fault shouldn't reasonably be there (eg that it's not due to misuse etc). Many retailers use this as a get-out clause as this can be, for obvious reasons, hard to prove.

However, Fender seem pretty good about replacements / repairs. I'd suggest to contact them directly in the first instance. All the above only really applies if you end having to get into a fight with the retailer.

Thanks for that clarification, Scott.
I'm not anticipating any great problem with the retailer (Andertons - have never faulted before...) but I take your point as regards keeping Fender UK in mind.
The reason I asked is that my first M3 had to be sent back to A's - and thence to F - because of a snapped aux or headphone socket, only a few months into their 12 month warranty. Three weeks later, I was the owner of a brand new M3, as opposed to "mine" being repaired.
The question is, does the 12 month warranty "start again" with the new amp?
The original purchase was in early 2011, with it being returned for repair/replacement in December 2011.....
So yes, it's now just over the 12 month period (if you take December), but both original and replacement dates are within the 2 year warranty given by Fender.
Just wondering what my next move should be......

No. Legally in UK, I'm pretty certain that the contract and warranty are for the original purchase, so the clock is still ticking from the original purchase date - unless the manufacturer / retailer explicitly chooses to reset the clock. It sounds as though you're still within the Fender warranty period so hopefully this will be pain-free.

Well, I can only offer an opinion based on what I'd do. First I'd go back to Andertons and see if they'll help. Then (if no joy from Andertons) I'd go to Fender and see what they'll do (even though, legally, Andertons should deal with any Fender warranty claims on your behalf, it may be quicker/simpler to do it yourself). Then (if still no joy) I'd go back to Andertons and (politely, friendly) start talking Sale Of Goods Act etc.

Then I might make a judgment call between the aggravation of pursuing further action against the retailer, versus just fitting a new metal jack myself - someone recently posted some nice pictures here of having done that to their own Mustang amp, it looked really good and seems a simple job if you have basic soldering abilities. Plus it saves you from the same problem arising again (if you've done it twice, it could be likely to happen again...)

Yes, I agree they seem a nice shop, and of course their promo videos on youtube are great fun. Although it amuses me that the staff on the actual shop floor often openly disagree with the opinions / reviews in those videos (they bluntly advised me not to buy a product that "Captain Lee and Chappers" had raved about on video) - refreshing honesty at least. Been in there browsing but haven't bought anything from them yet, although that's mainly because they didn't have what I wanted in stock!

Unfortunately, the current problem with the amp is that it keeps losing power momentarily -it only happens for a split second, but having been "switched on" again, it reverts to preset 00.
Having seen these sort of things before, I'm suspicious of the cause being a dry solder joint, but being an intermittent job, they're all the worse to track down.

did you try a different power cable? If you have a spare power cable from a computer that should work. Also, try it on a different outlet, and a different circuit (if possible). Might be something you can solve without exchanging the amp.

Yup : changed guitar, mains cable, guitar cable, power socket, and for the process of elimination, made sure I was using the same preset.
The really irritating thing was that when I got back to base, I repeated the exercise, both with the original gear and the replacement as detailed above....and yes, you've guessed it....no problems whatsoever!
The only setting that had to be different - neighbours and hours involved! - was volume ; altered the amp's volume and master, and played around with both guitar volumes/tones....
So....a volume/vibration issue?
