I am new to the Mustang II amp. I searched the forum but didn't find an answer to my question. I have already downloaded Fuse and some community presets. I also made a few adjustments to and deleted some of the factory presets. So I am aware of all the different tones this amp is capable of producing (really nice).
My question is what is the best way to adjust the amp when not hooked up to Fuse? Like adjusting the gain/volume/treble/bass when you don't know what the preset levels are. Is turing the knobs all the way back to zero and then turning them back to my preferred setting the best way?
I look forward to any comments or suggestions.

Cheers

You will be able to make some changes but not all:

http://www.fender.com/support/articles/why-do-i-need-fender-fuse/

WHY DO I NEED FENDER® FUSE™?

Problem Description

Do I really need Fender FUSE? I'm having a blast with just the amp by itself.

Solution

The Fender FUSE amplifier software provides functionality beyond what the Fender G-DEC 3, Mustang or Bronco 40 allow on their own. Control of parameters such as Noise Gate Sensitivity and Depth, as well as Compressor Gain, Attack, Release, Ratio and Threshold can only be accessed when using Fender FUSE.

Other Fender FUSE-only amplifier parameters include Tone Stack Position and Amp Boost. These features are used to customize your amplifier and create your own unique sound.

Regarding making changes on the amp:

FENDER® MUSTANG™ I-V PROGRAMMABLE KNOBS

Problem Description

What is the function of the Programmable Knobs on the Mustang I-V amps?

Solution

The Fender Mustang I & II amplifiers have four programmable knobs on the front panel. These are Gain, Volume, Treble & Bass. The Fender Mustang III, IV, and V have six programmable knobs. These are Gain, Volume, Treble, Mid, Bass, & Reverb. There is also a Master knob which is not programmable and remains "live" at all times. These knobs are part of each Preset. All knobs are normally inactive and will not show their actual setting when the Preset is selected. As soon as you turn any of these programmable knobs, they will become active.
When adjusting any of the Programmable knobs on the Mustang amps, you will see the Save light illuminate. If you change Presets without saving, you will lose the settings you just created. When using Fender FUSE with your Fender Mustang amp, FUSE will show the value of each programmable knob in each Preset in the Preset Editor.

If I understand your question, you will have to trust your ears. I personally start turning the knob and try to quickly get to the sound I had on the preset and then adjust from there. Turning the know all the way off and then adding to taste is also a good way. Up to you!
