I bought my Mustang II Amp 6 months ago and I was very satisfied with this product. It's a high quality product and I expected no problems with it, but I've noticed that sometimes the preset randomly changes when I turn on the amp and set up things. The knob is where it supposed to be but the preset is different. Recently this problem started to get bigger and I couldn't set the first and the last preset. Also I've noticed that if I push the knob down, the preset set itself where it's supposed to be. This just happens with the preset knob, I don't have problems with the other two (MOD and DLY/REV), It's like it isn't screwed properly. Also, I don't have any problems setting the presets from the FUSE software. The amp is under warranty but the closest dealer is 400km away from where I live, so it would be nice if I could do something that could fix the problem. Thanks!

A Fender mod here is going to come around and tell you to either send it in for service...or return it for a direct exchange at a Fender Authorized Dealer. The Mustang amps have a 5 year warranty, so don't try to open it or fix it yourself. Take it to a Fender dealer and get a new one. Fender will want you to e-mail them with the details of where you live so they can direct you to a nearby Authorized Fender Dealer to help you with this.

If I understand you correctly, I don't think there's a problem.

The preset values (except for the master volume) on the amp are saved independently of the settings of the physical knobs on the amp. For example, if the gain on your preset is saved at "8", when you access that preset, the gain will be at the saved value of "8" no matter what the physical knob on the amplifier is set at. However, as soon as you adjust the value of the physical knob, the preset will match it. Any changes you make will be lost unless you save the preset before turning off the amp or selecting another preset. When you turn on the amp, the presets should be at the last saved setting.

So if you want the preset to come up with the knobs set at specific values, adjust the preset and save it.

*** edit: nevermind.... you meant the entire preset...not the the value of one of the knobs*****

Have you tried resetting the amp?

To restore the Mustang amplifier to factory settings:
1. Turn the amplifier OFF.
2. Press and hold the EXIT button while turning the amplifier
ON. Continue holding the EXIT button until it is no longer
illuminated.

This will kill any of your stored presets, but not a problem if you've backed them up to the computer.

Also, have you attempted a firmware upgrade?

mine "wanders" at times - I'll have on a GREEN 1 and it'll automatically decide to wander to a RED preset... it's a bit annoying at times. I did do the firmware thing and have reset it, etc. - I usually have to turn it off then back on to fix the problem when it starts.

@jeff_hatcher I've reset the amp to the factory settings and the firmware is up-to-date but the problem still exists. I think it's not a software problem since I have no problems with the presets when using the FUSE software, the problem is when I set the knob on the first two or the last two presets (amber and red) - it sometimes "wanders" as Strangedogs described, down or up several presets. My solution is that I press down on the knob and the right preset is set. It's really a small but annoying problem and I don't want to waste time traveling just for the knob. Can this problem further damage the amp if I continue to use it this way, or should I just ignore it until I get a chance to take it to the dealer?

Nope, how do I do that and what do I need to tell them?

I haven't either. Since I bought it online (MF) I figured I'd have to ship it somewhere - too much trouble - I'll just deal with it.

I asked one of the mods to step in and help you out. He may be able to expedite a solution for you and strangedog.

Hi Guys,

Please be sure that you are updated to the most current firmware build for your amplifiers. Also, if you are still seeing issues with this behavior on your amps, you can try programming in Fender FUSE and leaving the amp's MOD and DLY/REV buttons turned to zero. Please let us know if we can assist further.
