I was screwing around with my new Mustang IV and looking for an overdrive tone like my Hot Rod Deville 410 that I no longer own. I was getting pretty frustrated until I tried the Bassman amp model with the Fuzz stompbox. Voila. There it was. That unique tone that I really liked about the HRD. Very happy. I'm sure I'll find all the other things I'm looking for. I really like this amp. I guess my complaint would be that the default presets really suck. Most seem like joke settings that would never be useful in any scenario.

I would suggest for other newbies like me when looking for a tone mess with the cab models too. I hate the 57 deluxe as is but when I changed the cab model to one of the 212 models I liked it much better. As with all these kinds of amps I LOVE that after I spend this time tweaking something down to a point where I love it I can save it and recall it anytime.

would be much appreciated if you upload that preset to FUSE and let us know where to find it, I've been looking to add that sounds to my arsenal! :D

You know I was thinking of doing that very thing since after I found it I did tweak down a bunch of settings on the amp model and the fuzzbox model. I'll upload it then post the info here. I'll call it "HRD410 OD" or something like that. I'm just thrilled I found it. I never thought about it before but now I think Fender based the HRD on a Bassman with a fuzz stompbox.

what I'd really like is to nail the clean sounds on a Hot Rod Deville. I was in a show with Kenny Vance, and he was kind enough to let me plug into his amp instead of using the 'house' amp. I've been chasing that sound ever since. :?

The hot rod series does have some incredible clean sounds. I've done some jams where I use the clean channel with a boss blues driver pedal and the angelic tone and sustain are why we all do this in the first place. With my Mustang my goal is to find all these wonderful things and store them. I'm optimistic but some tones might take quite a while or just not be possible. I was happy to hear how crystal clear the clean tones are out of the box on the Mustang so there is hope.

I uploaded it to Fuse. Search for "HRD 410 OD" and that's it. I used my Gibson SG standard to create it.

I downloaded your preset. Feedback after I play with it a bit. Sounds like a good one.

I gave it a few humble stars to give it some life. I take risks some times.

What I've learned about the presets is they don't always sound the same for everyone. Even the actual model of Mustang makes a difference. A friend of mine creates a bunch of them with his Mustang III but I always have to tweak them on my IV. He also plays strats and I play an SG which makes a big difference. When I do create them and upload them I usually add the Mustang model and guitar used to create it with.

I even have to tweak my own presets when I switch between my guitars. I finally started saving presets just for certain guitars. Still, they'll usually get you close and you can tweak to your need from there. This one is really close to the deville 410 OD channel. So close it made me realize what inspired Fender to make the hot rod deville. A lot of guys love Bassman's with OD or fuzz pedals. They just combined that sound into the HRD. My mistake in the past was trying to find an HRD sound by starting with the twin, deluxe, or super sonic model. Just couldn't get the flavor I was looking for. If you get too much feedback I'd start with tweaking the SAG and bias settings. I usually crank both to the extremes (SAG=0% bias=100%) because to my ears that gets me closest to tube tone.

Hey great preset,

I never played through the real hot rod deville but according to youtube videos it sounds really close.

One question for those that did played through the real amp, I tried changing the cabinet emulation to 4x12V and to my ears sounds more natural and closer to the recordings i heard. What do you think?

I'll check that out this weekend. I'm constantly tweaking those presets. I'm never 100% satisfied. Once I hit about 90% satisfied I usually save it and let it go because it already took me a while to get to that point. I'm one of those guys that first bought one of these amps and after only about an hour said "This amp sucks. In fact, all modeling amps suck." The thing is you have to put in the time. If a preset is stored to emulate Jimi Hendrix and you don't think it does it might be because you don't have the same specific model of amp, guitar, or even room acoustics that the author did when they created it. Start with a preset as a base to work from and you can usually get extremely close to what you're looking for. Now instead of rejecting digital modeling I enjoy the challenge of tweaking the heck out of different settings until I find what I'm looking for. When I stumbled on this HRD tone it made me realize where Fender themselves got the inspiration for that amp. It's just a Bassman with a fuzz pedal.
