I currently own a Fender Mustang 3 (only use it at home)

Eventhough I don't need the extra Power, would a Mustang 4 with two Speakers Sound much better, even at low power settings (view my neighbours)

A friend is offering as very good price for my Mustang 3, so I'm tempted.

Looking forward to feedback and advice.

Thanks.

From personal experience, I doubt there will be any difference at low volumes. If anything, I'd expect the 3 to be slightly better.

I can see principally four reasons for buying a 4 over a 3:
- the extra power/volume
- stereo options (fx loop mainly; the built-in speakers give some stereo sound but not as good as two separate speakers/cabs)
- that 2x12 cab looks sooooo good
- 4 button footswitch included (yes you can buy it separately too)

I bought a 4 mainly for the second and third reasons above. I haven't actually needed the stereo loop yet. But I still love the look of the 2x12 cab in the corner of the room - and yes I fully realise that aspect of it is almost entirely irrelevant to the actual guitar playing.

So for all practical purposes, the 3 would have been a better choice for me. For some silly/childish reason, the 4 adds more to the fun of playing. I wouldn't argue with anyone else who bought one just for that reason.

Just my opinion, from another home-use-only person, hope it's useful.

Hi polypenko,

We will be happy to assist. Thanks again Scott-UK for chiming in. Besides the obvious difference in muscle :D The Mustang IV & V amplifiers can accept stereo or mono effects devices. Note that a mono-in, mono-out effect unit will use one send and one return, and only effect one side of the stereo image. The Mustang III amplifier only accepts mono effects devices. You will also due to cabinet size, have a bit better low frequency response with the M4 than the M3. I would suggest you check with your local music store if they happen to have an M4 you can test out. Please let us know if this helps and if we can assist further.

I wondered that myself and ended up with the IV. I will tell you this, your III has a better speaker in it. It's the Celestion GT-100. That's superior to the Celestion 70/80's in the Mustang IV but the two of them together still "out-punches" the III in my opinion. When I was debating it I was lucky that my local GC had both in their amp room so I could really crank them up a bit. The III is an awesome amp and there's nothing wrong with owning on but when you starting hitting some real volume the IV could emulate the 412 cabs better. Way more thump and "punch" to the sound. That's the only place where I found the III to be lacking.
