Insanity - doing the same thing and expecting a different result. How is this one any different than the last one? There used to be several threads on fizz. They all went the same way. Moderators froze them and piled all of them into the existing megathread. There is nothing new to add. This thread will not go any differently. Best to merge it now.

Moderator: May I suggest you freeze this thread and move all responses to the existing Fizz thread so people have a half-decent chance of finding the relevant posts on this topic?

I find that thread has the opposite effect, any relevant posts or intelligent discussion is buried under a mountain of bickering, whining, and childish tirades.

Just sayin' though, ...do what you want.

Well then it sounds like the moderators have it under control, and don't need any outside help.

If you guys were following the other thread instead of coming here to complain you'd see that I've already posted there.

I posted a link to this thread as well as summarizing what I have said here.
One step ahead of you.

Thank you for playing.....we have some lovely parting gifts for you.

The forum does not need another fizz thread.

guitar amps are NOT supposed to sound Hi-Fi, so no vendor really tries hard to do it

A different way of looking at it: in the early days, it wasn't possible (or at least economically so) to make guitar amps sound hi-fi: reasons are low quality components, venue power supplies, etc.

So people (musicians, sound engineers) got used to the idea that the sound wasn't hi-fi.

When "audiophile" hi-fi progressed in the 70s/80s, guitar equipment manufacturers didn't feel the need to follow suit, because the users were used to not expecting it.

Now, of course, it is very easy and cheap to get hifi sound from any audio equipment. But it seems guitar equipment manufacturers don't bother because they don't need to.

That is, it's not that amps aren't supposed to sound hi-fi, rather everyone's just in the mindset that they don't need to. Indeed, a valve/tube amp is almost considered superior if it does reproduce all the grungy noise and problems of a "classic" amp from 40 years ago...!

Not only do the makers feel that "they don't need to," when they try, the results are universally hated. How about a Les Paul Recorder through an Ultralinear Twin? That is a considerably more "hi-fi" than a Les Paul Standard through a BF Twin, but it sure doesn't sound ANYTHING like what anyone wants!!!!!
