Hey, i'm looking into getting a small-ish amp to use for mostly travelling, and possibly gigging as well. I'm looking for something that can produce both a good clean sound (with reverb too) as well as a brutal heavy distortion sound for the rock and metal influenced stuff I play.
I had a quick surf around and had a look at the Fender Frontman 15G and 15R, but a lot of the reviews highlighted that the reverb was pretty poor.

I thought the best course of action would be to take to the forums!

So, in your experience, have any of you come across a nice wee amp that can deal out good sounds like this?

Also, I have a 100 watt Mustang 3 which I love to bits. If there's anything which can even get close to the level of that (but is still small and compact) then that'd be ideal.

Thanks :)

I own a Super Champ X-2. The clean channel is pure Fender tube goodness and the 2nd channel has the flexibility of a Mustang. I think the reverb sounds great. It is 15 watts and loud. It comes combo 10" speaker or a head to power any cab. It does have a 1x12 cab that it is meant to be paired with. It has to be heard to be appreciated for the amazing small amp it is. Fender has created something very special with this amp, IMO.

hmm yeah clean with metal sounds built in you're looking at Mustang, or maybe that Yamaha THR5 dealy.

If you don't mind open box this Roland Cube looks like a bargain. http://www.jr.com/roland/pe/ROL_CUBE15XL_hy_BS/

I just bought a Laney Cub 12R brilliant value for a 15watt valve amp with great sound. Got it on special for $399.00 Aust. Lot cheaper than a blues Jr for a comparable amp.

(a bit off-topic, sorry - although this question may also interest the OP)

emjaycee49: Did you also audition the Laney VC15? If so, I'm curious your opinion of it compared to the Cub. They're similar in many ways but the Cub does seem incredible value by comparison.

No, didn't try thy VC. Came across the Cub 12R while looking for a good value small valve amp, tried the cub 12R and bought it on the spot. I had tried a blues jr, but not cheap for a small amp. Loving the cub more every time I play through it.
