Ok so I'm 100% new to modeling and fx units. I went out to buy a mustang iii but needed more foot controll/ switching capabilities. Ok so now I am looking at the mustang floor and now need to figure out the best way to amplify it. I am used to just guitar into amp so all This monitor/powered speaker/ not power speaker stuff is just confusing. Basically I just play with friends and open mic night type things. I need Something comparable to the volume output of the mustang iii would be perfect( or something comparable to a 40-50 watt tube amp). I would like to keep it under 100$. What are my options, what sounds best?

I love the way the mustang III sounds so anything that will get me something to sound like that would be perfect. Also would prefer for it to look like a guitar amp

This is what I am using for my Mustang Floor with a 2 x 12 cab with two 16ohm Texas Heats..

A little more than a $100.00, but it does sound good..
I have an A/B switch to go from the Egnater to the QSC...

You might give the Tech 21 Power Engine 60 a try, but it is over 300.00..

For that price you could maybe get a 50 watt Kustom Powered Floor Monitor, but it's not going to be very loud and as far as sound quality, you get what you pay for. In the audio world volume is sold at a market price per decibel, despite all the games manufacturers play with watts and other jargon. $100 is not going to get you a power amp and speaker at the volume levels you want. Think 15-20 watt solid state amp volume range like the Mustang I or Vox Pathfinder.

The good news is that almost all open mikes have their own PA system, so you'd just plug your Floor into the house system and wail away.

Ok here's my questions

1. Would the tech 21 power engine + mustang floor give me equal to or better tone then the mustsng iii. Also would the tech 21 be louder?

2. Can I buy the fender mustang V cab and somehow run the mustang floor into that . I want this to sound like a guitar amp not that PA sound

3. I have a blackstar ht40. If I run the mustang in the fx loop with the blackstar color my sound. Are all the tonestacks and master volume bypassed and I just controll volume from mustang floor? Will I break my amp?

I have heard good things about the Tech 21 PE from a few reviews on the net. I almost bought a pair, until I hooked up my QSC power amp to my 2 x 12 cab with the Texas Heats. I was sold on the tone. I A/B'd it against my Blues Deluxe and my Blues Deville and it was really close to the tone of both of them. My assumption is that the QSC GX5 is a pretty powerful amp and gives it the tube like balls to drive that 2 x 12 cab. I stuck the Rane dual band EQ in the chain so I can dial the tone in how I want it..

It does not sound like a PA with the setup I have, just pure clean powerful tone. It sounds much better with the Mustang Floor than with my Zoom G5. I had a Mustang V and I could not take the hiss or the size for my small studio. The QSC is dead silent, well it got that way after I installed a 12db fan in it...

I have tried the Mustang Floor with all of my tube amps and it sounds much better going through the solid state QSC. I have a couple of Altec Lansing monitors I use with the Mustang floor sometimes for low level practice. Pretty much just use the QSC and the 2 x 12 cab now.

I use my overdrive effects board straight into the Mustang Floor, just like I do for my tube amps, and it gets some really good over drive tones..

Here is a shot of the pedal setup that goes into the Mustang Floor. The Mustang Floor is not in the picture, but it is right in front of the nearest tweed amp in the picture..

Image

I have the Boss Volume pedal after the overdrives and then to the Mustang Floor so I can dial the grit better from my guitar pickups. Then use the volume pedal from the Mustang Floor like a master volume..

Pretty basic setup on the over drive pedals, EH Soul Preacher->Hardwire CM2->Fulltone Fulldrive 2 Mosfet->Boss DS1-MXR 10 Band EQ. I do not like the overdrives from most multi effects pedals I have played through, so I just use the same ones that I use for my tube amps.

The Mustang 4 x 12 might be good, but I like the 2 x12's and stack two of those if I need four 12's. If you can find a cheap good power amp you could give it a try, just make sure the fan is quite if it has one. I am thinking of switching the QSC amp for a Crown XLS1500, because it only weighs 8lbs. The QSC weighs in at around 12lbs. The cab I have weighs in at around 50lbs. So with a 62lb rig it has enough power to knock your hair back and not break your back.

Thanks for the input. Just picked up the mustang floor today. I was originally gonna get the mustang iii, the 4 way switch and a wah pedal for 400$ and decided to just get the floor and run it though my blackstar ht40. Gonna put up the ht40 for sale and depending how much I get ill decide on a cab/ amp for the mustang. Who knows maybe ill love how it sounds and just keep it

I love the Blackstar but for a guy on a budget looking for EVERY tone the mustang is a more practical choice. All in one package, no pedals, and CHEAPER. just had my first child so for now the mustang is all I can do. Pm if your interested In the blackstar

I already have two tube combos, sorry. I wish I could, but I just need a head amp for my cabs. You are right about an all in one unit with the Mustang Floor. I also have a Zoom G5. I use itin the loop of my tube amps for modulation, filters delays, flange, looper and a ton more. Last night I did a scroll mod and is really a lot more usable as a live setup now. It allows up to nine stomp pedals in any order and it has some good ones. It is replacing my large pedal board with all of my Electro Harmonix pedals.

I would suggest you look into this: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/amplifie ... -amplifier
I use this with my Mustang Floor and a 1x12 cab with this in it: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessor ... ar-speaker
This is the speaker that is in the Mustang 3 amp.
Cheapest solution, sounds great and is LOUD! (if you need it to be) AND if you buy .
Good luck.

I only use headphones (home use only) - I can use the floor unit with JUST headphones right? I mean no preamp or amp needed???

That's correct! I use headphones at home and a powered floor monitor and send another feed to our sound engineer at shows. Works great either way for me. :)

I was thinking of that amp. It really is loud enough.
I play with a pretty ham fisted drummer.

Another vote for the Tech 21 Power Engine. I've been using mine for many years, with a few different modelling preamps from Line 6 and BOSS before I got the Mustang Floor. The Power Engine is just a power amp and speaker in a cabinet with some basic volume and tone controls. It's got 1/4" and XLR inputs, also 1/4" and XLR outputs - the XLR output is a great sounding direct out to a PA. It's awesome. Sounds like a guitar amp, not a PA. I love it. If something happened to mine, I'd have to get another one right away.
