Hi there

I'm not sure this is possible but I am a beginner and I've set the first 6 presets of my Mustang I with the right pedals and amp settings for songs that I'm learning.

I have the backing tracks for these and my plan was to record the 6 backing tracks onto my Jamman solo loop pedal and then record myself playing along to the backing tracks but with the correct presets so it sounds right.

My problem is that if I connect my guitar to the looper, then the looper to the amp, when I play the backing track won't it be effected by the preset sound? (some songs use lots of overdrive). Also if I want to record myself and play it back, the pedal won't record the sound from the amp, only the sound from the guitar (is that right?)

Anyway, I was wondering if it would work if I plugged the guitar into the amp > then headphones on the amp to the looper input > and looper output to the Amp aux.

Would this work or would no sound come out of the amp? I'm not too bothered about the sound quality being diminished as I just what to hear where I make mistakes but the right sound for each song.

Cheers

Correct, yes.

No this wouldn't work, you'd get no sound out of the amp. You'd also get a runaway feedback loop, as the sound you're putting into the aux will come out of the headphone socket, and back round to the aux...

The way people normally achieve this is to use an amp with an fx loop (which the Mustang 1 doesn't have, you'd need a Mustang 3 or higher). I and others have posted details of how to set this up before, eg these topics:

Alternatively, you could record the backing track onto the looper, then connect the looper to the aux-in and your guitar to the normal guitar input. That way, you could play the backing track through the amp's speaker without it being coloured by the current preset that you're using for the guitar sound.

The only downside I can think of with this is that you have to reconnect things depending on whether you're recording or playing back the backing track. For what you want to do I don't think that will be a problem, although obviously it wouldn't work for live playing using a looper to record and play back passages without stopping playing in between.

Thank you for the detailed reply. I will try what you have suggested. I've been looking at the Mustang III but don't think I'll get one until I'm a bit better at playing.

Thanks again
