Hello,

First of all, sorry for my English because I'm French :)

Here is my question :
I own a Fender Mustang III and I'm very happy with it but I intend to buy a Blackstar head ht-5 and would like to know if it is possible to connect it to the Mustang so I can enjoy the cabinet of the Mustang with my new head. And if it's possible possible then how can i do it.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Regards.

Gui

No this isn't possible. The Blackstar head (or any amp head) outputs a high-level signal intended to directly drive a speaker. The Mustang does not have any input connection suitable for taking such a high-level signal.

All the inputs on the Mustang take low-level signals. In particular, the fx-return socket on the Mustang has been mentioned in other topics as a suitable input for other equipment. DO NOT USE THIS SOCKET WITH AN AMP HEAD. The fx return is only suitable as an input for devices outputting a low-level signal.

If you're buying the Blackstar HT-5, and want a separate head/speaker rather than a combo, then note that Blackstar do sell the HT-5 as a 'pack' with the head and either one or two speakers (to make a mini-stack), for quite a good price. (nb I'm not trying to advertise non-Fender kit on a Fender forum, I just know this because I was looking at getting one myself, but decided on the Mustang instead!)

with the Mustang 3, there's a possibly-non-warranty-voiding mod that you can do for around 1 dollar to be able to use your speaker with an external power input.

If you take a close look at you speaker connection on your M3 you will see the two speaker terminals on the speaker are not soldered, just inserted in place.
-the trivial mod would be to buy a 1/4" mono connector, add two short cables with terminals, and connect that directly to the Mustang speaker after removing the cables coming from the mustang power amp. The downside of this is that you are going to need to connect disconect directly from the speaker everytime you want to switch from Mustang to you other amp.
-To avoid the back and forth switching of cables, the (slightly) more advanced mod, would be to use a switched mono 1/4" connector instead of the previous one. When nothing is connected into the 1/4", the mustang is connected to the speaker, as soon as you connect your external amp, the mustang gets disconnected from the speaker.

All that said, I would use the Mustang 3 alone as I think it sounds way better :)
