I see alot of people complaining about noise with this unit. I'm trying to use the aux in with a PC and it is almost unusable. Sound like the unit doesn't exercise ther best grounding design.

what "unit" are you talking about? what kind of noise you get?

I do not know what kind of ground are you talking about, but in unbalanced audio connections there is no ground or shielding...

here are some hints:
-lower your pc output volume to almost minimum as you are using a power amplified output PC to enter a line input (mustang) so chances are you are saturating your mustang input
-if that does not solve it, chances are your PC is putting noise in the line, if you have one , please try with laptop running on batteries just to verify

Floor model. PC audio out doesn't drive that hard thats why people use powered speakers. Its a ground loop noise problem.

I'm not sure if the OP is just making a statement, or asking a question for advice/help?

Also, I'm not sure about the assertion "Its a ground loop noise problem." If one has done enough diagnosis to be 100% certain of that, one presumably also knows the solution so wouldn't need to ask the question.

So, two things. First, here's a great video of what ground-loop noise from a computer to a guitar amp sounds like, and how to cure it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSA2F1AwboU

Second, another possibility depends on what you're using to amplify / listen to the sound output from the M-Floor. If you're feeding it to a guitar amp, then that isn't going to give a hi-fi sound reproduction of the aux-in signal, for reasons discussed several times before in this forum so I won't bother repeating here. Some people incorrectly think that's a fault. Not saying that's the case here, just another possibility...

I have noticed that if I use my mp3 player there is never noise. Working with output from my PC can get noisy. Closing browsers and lowering output has helped me. Whatever noise I have encountered has come from my PC and not my Mustang.

I've actually found that there is a sweet spot with my Master Volume knob around 3-4 that minimizes this extra buzz happening. It's like a buzz on the low side of 3-4, and then a slightly different buzz on thee upperside, and they meet in the middle to just a low level.

I had to replace the a/c adapter for my laptop to get the insane pops/clicks to stop when using the aux/in from my laptop. I finally figured it out when I ran on battery on the noise stopped.

Hi madmarcus1960,

We will be happy to assist. You have been given a lot of great advice here on the Forum. We would suggest try plugging in your Mustang Floor and computer with another power outlet in your house. Please let us know how it goes and if we can assist further.

New Mustang floor owner here with the same noise problem. I'm hearing it in my headset/monitors/amp.
I had 2 other different multi effects units of other companies, that were connected to the same pc with the same cable and there were no noise at all... When I unplug the cable the noise is completely gone.
Any solution?

Any solution

Have you followed the suggestions in the youtube video I posted above? What difference did that make?

Have you used the 'ground lift' switch on your Mustang Floor? What difference did that make?

Dear arch23,

Thanks for your inquiry. I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with your unit. I have performed a battery of test on a production model MUSTANG™ FLOOR here in the TSL and have not been able to reproduce your noise issues. The only noise per say is what is inherent to the presets themselves. I also ran audio from a computer into the AUX port and still experienced no noise. I would suggest trying the suggestions of the other forum members and if the problem continues you may want to consider taking your unit into a Fender® Authorized Service Center to have it looked at.

Regards,

Steven,

Thank you for your replies guys!

scott-uk - My PC is a desktop computer so the youtube video is not relevant. As for the 'ground lift' - I tried that and there was no difference.

Steve - none of the suggestions so far helped, so I guess taking it to a service center is the next logical thing to do. Though I have a feeling it's not faulty (the noise is present only when connected to my desktop but not to my phone...).

Hi arch23,

We are just following up here. Given the fact that there is noise present only when connected to your PC, I would actually suggest investigating a bit further to try to isolate exactly how/where the issue is occurring. Any time you are connecting unbalanced audio lines, there is a greater chance of noise and ground loops occurring.

If possible, try connecting your Fender® Mustang™ Floor to the PC with a balanced audio connection. This will likely only be possible if you are using a dedicated audio interface that offers balanced line inputs such as XLR or 1/4" TRS (tip, ring, sleeve) type connectors.

Lastly, if you do need to contact an Authorized Service Center, please see the link below to locate the Service Center nearest to you. And please let us know if we can assist further.

Best Regards,

Alan

Thanks Alan.
The "how" is quite simple to described - I plug in the cable into the aux input and there is a loud static/hum/high pitch noise. regarding the mode of the mustang floor. e.g. even if the tuner is now on.

As I mentioned earlier, same exact setup was silent into the aux with different mfx units.
Maybe the Mustang floor is designed differently and is vulnerable at that point.

I understand the the key is eliminating some sort of ground loop going on there, so I will try to find the best connection for that.
