Hey guys,

I play mostly blues and the like and for the last two months or so my preferred tone was (taken from a suggestion from Orcatraz, thanks by the way!) using an overdriven princeton (with a post compressor). Great for blues like single coil sound.

Lately I found myself trying to get a more crunchy tone (kind of classic rock, and not so Fender-like) but that at the same time would allow me to play chords (even open chords) without sounding muddy, with a well defined sound.

I experimented with everything from british 60s onwards. British 70's was too muddy or too clean depending on the gain. Anything from British 80's or heavier made me run for cover.
Apparently my only choice was British 60's but it sounded trebbly and weak, until I tried this:

-basic British 60's preset
-lower the mids somewhat
-crank the master volume emulation up to 10 (not the physical master volume knob, the advanced amp emulation option) this gives you full power tube saturation
-add an overdrive effect with default presets in front of the amp emulation

The trick is to play with a humbucker. You get a Marshally sound without all the bass that muds the sound and you get overdriven sound but with well defined chords. Adjust your guitar volume to get a great variety of tones.

I'm a happy camper now :)

I wonder if you guys found other solutions to a similar problem.

Thanks for that Jedi.

Is that the "Basic British 60s" preset by Rob Allan?

You didn't need to change the gain?

Anyway, I'll give it a try thanks. I'd been looking for a nice British 60s based preset.

Now I need a British 80s one as well.

:)

Hey,

I dont like the gain control of the British 60 emulation itself. I get the gain in two ways, using the aforementioned settings:

-the overdrive saturates the preamp emulation, giving the crunchy sound
-the master volume amp emulation maxed out gives the power amp saturation, rounding the crunch tone

All this coupled with a humbucker gives you pretty much the Oasis sound. Play with the tone stack to accomodate your pickup (in my case, lower the mids)
