You don't say what amp model you're using. Suggest you select (or create) a preset using the Fender Twin Reverb amp model, that's generally considered the cleanest amp (or download the "empty" preset which has no amp model, but may be better initially to stick with standard stuff). Set gain to zero, all EQs at halfway, make sure all effects are turned off. Set preset volume to halfway, set master volume low. Set guitar volume low.

What does that sound like? Turn up volumes only just enough to clearly hear the sound. Try a different cable between guitar and amp, any difference? If the guitar has multiple pickups, switch between them and see if one sound distorted compared to the rest. Try the guitar not plugged into anything: do the notes ring cleanly in the first place? If possible, try a different guitar plugged into the amp.

As for physical damage to the amp: if the speaker cone/coil etc were damaged, that would give distortion (some musicians in the 60s deliberately cut slits in their speaker coils to distort the sound!). Presumably if anything like that had occurred, there'd also be noticeable damage to the outside of the amp. Unless the amp's been dropped perhaps?

A quick test to take out all the modeling stuff and the miriad parameters you can configure is to connect your guitar directly to the FX return connector (assuming you have a M3-4-5), you might need to cranck up the guitar volume depending on your pickups.

This will make sure the 4 following components work as they should:
-guitar
-guitar instrument cable
-Mustang power amp
-mustang speaker (in case of M3 and M4)

does your LTD Viper-1000 have the EMG active pickups config? If so, did you already try changing the battery?

As I said before my amp is Fender (DSP) Mustang 1, I did all you said and the ditortion persists, I will take my friends cable and try it, and If I unplug my guitar the notes ring very clean, and I did not drop my amp 100%, it would cost me too much :)

"...If I unplug my guitar the notes ring very clean..."

you really lost me there. I interpret that your strings are not making the noise.

Anyway, from what I can see online you guitar has an active pickup (hint: it has a battery in it somewhere). If that is the case please lower the guitar volume or if possible just turn off the guitar preamp as you are surely saturating the Mustang input because your signal is too strong.

From what I can gather from your response to ScottUK's post, it doesn't sound like you
are comprehending what he's suggesting. It doesn't matter which Mustang you have. When he suggested that you use the "Fender Twin model" he meant for you to either choose a preset on your Mustang I that uses the the Fender Twin amp model or to connect the Mustang to your computer and use the Fuse software to change the amp model being used by the current preset. Now, I have a question. When you change presets on the amp, are they all distorted in all three preset banks?

O.
