Ok, I know I found this before in the knowledge base I think but I can't find it now.

Playing backing tracks through the mustang amp. I know it can be done through the aux port, but I was told that the usb port can also be used as an aux port. So, should I not be able to use the usb cable to play my backing tracks?

Thanks!

The G-DEC amps can, I believe, do this. The Mustang amps can't. The USB port on the Mustang amps is for sound output only, plus amp control via FUSE.

What has sometimes been suggested is to connect a stereo cable from the headphones / line-out socket on a PC, to the aux-in socket on the Mustang amp. That's the only way to play music from a PC through the amp's speaker (ignoring esoteric things like using the guitar input or fx-return!).

NB, if you do this, don't expect the sound to be hi-fi quality. Whereas the 'aux' socket on the Mustang amps bypasses all the amp modelling and effects, going straight to the power amp, the sound is still being played thorugh the amp's speaker. This isn't a FRFR hi-fi speaker. It is a guitar amp speaker, with a frequency response and range specifically designed for amplifying a guitar's sounds.

Personally, I play backing tracks through a separate hi-fi amp and speakers in the same room, and keep the amp just for the guitar.

Yep, that's how I do it. And scott-uk is right, it's not exactly the greatest sound quality. I wouldn't use for any kind of serious performance, but for practice or showing off your chops to friends, it works great. Another challenge that I've experienced is trying to get the mix just right. Every time I change the track and/or my amp preset I have to readjust my sound levels so guitar doesn't over power the BT or vice versa. It's a minor inconvenience but this method has a couple things going for it... It's simple, effective, and doesn't cost any further investment. (except for the aux cord if you don't already have one laying around.)

yep, agree with these guys, this works in a pinch but you're gonna be much happier running the backing tracks through some other source.

I have a PC lined into my 8ch board, and that runs out to a power amp, and a pair of Yamaha Club Series 15" two ways. I can kill cats with this setup, and turn the amps up to get the mix/volume level I'm looking for.

cuz sometimes, it's just GOT to be loud!

I solve the sound problem by running my PC out into the Mustang aux/in and then listen to it all through good quality headphones. Sounds great and nobody hears the mistakes. The beauty of amp modeling is the ability to do things digitally. Mustang for my home practice and the SCX2 for other situations. It sounds great with its line out going into other powered set-ups.
