I very hastily tried to record the other day via USB. I had been rehearsing for a gig and it was not my goal to record so I just lazily tried it while connected to Fuse, etc. It worked fine but have to wonder if it wouldn't sound a lot better via the XLR or 1/4 inch outputs via my recording rig.

How do those of you who record get the best tone when recording through the Floor?

Thanks...

Unless your "recording rig" connected to the analogue M Floor outputs (XLR or 1/4") is intentionally colouring / modifying the sound in some way, and assuming you're doing digital recording eg on a computer... then by definition the best recording quality will be to use the USB, potential latency issues notwithstanding.

This is simply because you'll be avoiding the round-trip from digital to analogue and back to digital, which will only degrade the signal and introduce noise.

But of course, if your "recording rig" is part of the tonal quality (eg it might include an amp / speakers that are then mic'ed to feed into the recording system, etc), and that's the sound you want, then you should stick with the analogue route.

It all depends on your recording rig.
If you're recording with a computer/DAW software then the USB way is the best but you're limited to a sampling rate of 44.1K. If you need to use another sampling rate you have no choice than to use the Floor's analog outputs.
If your recording rig has balanced/XLR inputs than use the XLR connections because they are more immune to noise.

Thanks very much, that makes sense. I'll try USB for now. Seems I had to use asio4all as I didn't notice any ASIO driver was loaded for the Floor.

The Fender ASIO driver isn't installed as part of the FUSE installation, you have to download and install it separately. I believe ASIO4ALL works just as well though.
