As the title imagine,i own a Mustang IV.

First:It's an unbelievable Amp.
I've play many stuff the last 30 years and get tired to carry mutch equip with me.The Mustang IV was my choice and now,oh guess,it's my love.

The aux input jack is getting broken after 9 month of use.The contact is loosen when i use my mp3 player.I use an adapter to increase the length of the wire so it stay's permanently in the jack. It's not often plug in and out.Wondering why this happend.

My question is.Must i really carry the amp thru my dealer to change the complete amp? My IV got no hum, fizzle or any other missfunction.Or is there a chance that the dealer repair it?

Another way would be to change the jack by myself.I guess warranty is lost then?

Has anyone the same problem, and maybe, got a helping hand ?

Thx in advanced.

Look at this topic:

Others have had the same problem as you and some have fitted replacement jack sockets, indeed superior metal ones. Looks a neat job.

Depends how comfortable you are about opening your amp and using a soldering iron. Or whether you have a friend who could do it. Unfortunately, to have it done professionally by an amp repairer would probably be cost-prohibitive.

If you mean my link to topic 59187 in an earlier reply, you're right, it does seem it no longer works; on further investigation it seems Fender have changed the URLs to the forum since I posted that (presumably all old links to other topics are now similarly broken; Fender, can you run a batch-job to fix them all en masse, or at least setup a DNS alias so that the old links continue to work?).

I have fixed the link in my earlier reply; topic 59187 still exists and can easily be found by other means. Here's the (new, working) link again:

viewtopic.php?f=27&t=59187

The link within that topic to a supplier of suitable replacement jacks still appears to work correctly:

http://www.connect-tech-products.com/in ... Jacks&id=2

and to quote from that topic: "The parts are the J-355W-C-I-09 or the J-355W-C-NT that have the same leg configurations, black surrounds, and two switches internally. One to power off the main speaker, and one for the headphones."

Of course, whether that supplier is useful depends where you are in the world, but the info should help someone find a suitable equivalent part locally to them.

You may also be interested in this topic, which shows the procedure step-by-step with pictures:

Excuse me for asking a question which has perhaps already been answered - I am not exactly an expert on electronic equipment so I need very specific guidelines. :-) Both the aux and phones sockets are broken on my Mustang II. In the guide in the other thread it looks easy enough to replace them so I will try that. However, I am unsure exactly which parts to use. As far as I can tell I need two different ones: one for the headphones which mutes the main speaker and one for the aux which doesn't. Or what? In any case I prefer some made out of metal so the problem won't repeat itself. I hope someone can help me out.

Hi Martin L,

We wanted to chime in here and offer that if you are the original owner and are in North America, it would be best for you to contact an authorized service center (please see the link below), and get your amp in to be evaluated and serviced. You will need to bring a copy of your sales receipt with you.

If you are outside of North America, you will want to contact the music dealer where you purchased the amp and ask the dealer to contact the Fender® distributor in your region for service and repair options. If it turns out that you still want to purchase parts for your amp, you can order those though the authorized service center. And please let us know if we can assist further.

Best Regards,

Here's my take on self-repair. If you're not under warranty or you're ready to break out the soldering iron to void your warranty and do this repair then why replace the jack(s) with the same poor quality ones?

Run wires from the circuit board to a proper metal jack mounted in an appropriate location. If my headphone jack ever fails I'm considering drilling a hole in the cabnet to mount a proper metal 1/4" jack. Even when new, the jacks used in the Mustang do not feel like they make a decent connection to the plug and feel like they'll break eventually.

I do like the Mustang and it says something, I think, that I'm willing to workaround this rather than just return it. :)
