Greetings,

I am connecting an additional stomp box using the Send/Return jacks. Immediately when connecting the stomp I get a hum. Of course, it is more intense if I am using a channel with higher gain. Any ideas on what can be causing the hum? I pressed the ground lift and it did nothing.

Thanks
RickeG

No answers, but some more diagnostic questions:
  • Is the stomp-box mains or battery powered?
  • If you connect guitar to stompbox to amp (without the M-Floor connected anywhere) do you still get the hum?
  • What about if you have the above connections and turn up the 'gain' control on the amp itself?
  • If you connect guitar to stomp-box to M-Floor input, then M-Floor output to amp, do you get the hum?
  • If you have the above connections, but turn off ALL amp modelling and effects in the M-Floor, do you get the hum?
  • If you connect guitar to M-Floor, then M-Floor output to stomp-box input, and stomp-box output to amp input, do you get the hum?
  • If you have the above connections, but turn off ALL amp modelling and effects in the M-Floor, do you get the hum?
  • Connect the stomp-box in the fx loop, as per your original config, but using really short, well-shielded cables, that pass nowhere near any other cables at all - whether mains, audio, rf, computer, etc, etc. Does that reduce/eliminate the hum?

Understanding exactly what circumstances reproduce the hum, and what situations reduce it, is the first step to identifying and thus eliminating the cause.

It is of course always possible that the stomp-box circuitry itself is introducing the hum, in which case it's going to be impossible to eliminate. As you've observed, some M-Floor settings (eg higher gain) will amplify / accentuate the hum more than others, in which case you'll just have to tweak until you find an acceptable compromise.

Out of interest, what does this stomp-box do? (other than hum, that is!) Could you use one of the M-Floor's built-in effects to obviate the need for the stomp-box at all?

Also worth reiterating that the M-Floor's fx-loop is immediately after the guitar input in the signal chain, before any of the DSP amp-modelling and effects. Worth asking if that's definitely where you want/need your stomp-box in the signal chain?
