Hi all,
I have an M3 and use allot of distortion & high gain. I also us e the built in noise gate in all my presets. This works pretty good. What I don’t like is when I crank up the master volume a bit say 4 -6 you can then hear background noise such as finger noise and my not so perfect picking. What I am saying is I'm happy with the sound at lower volumes 1-3, but turned up the smoothness and cleanliness diminishes and it sounds kind of harsh.
Would a noise reduction pedal such as the ISP Technologies Decimator plugged into the effects loop help solve this????
Any other suggestions are welcome also.
TIA
Doug

Nope. When you're playing, those sounds will come out through ANY noise gate, including your pedals.

Thanks that helps.
Now my question is how can I use cranked up volume and have it sound as smooth as it does at lower volumes?? Is there a professional trick?
How do bands playing to large crowds manage to get a high volume yet a smooth sound out of their guitars. Is there a pedal or trick to setting the presets on the M3? Sorry if this doesnt make sense, I dont have a tone of knowledge about setting up sound.

I can get the sound I like for a preset, then when I crank it it seems to get harsh and someof the tones seem to mudd up some. Again sorry if this sounds ignorant. Any tips are welcome.
TIA
Doug

The harder you push your speakers, the more your MIDs will come out. Lots of bass and mids will muddy up your tone. You have a Mustang 3, so it's open-back and therefore not nearly as directional as other models are. I already advised one guy to point his Mustang 2 up at his face instead of at his feet. It totally changed the sound of his amp.

There are two things you have to remember about professional guitar players. One, they have LOTS of practice with their fingering and picking techniques. Two, a lot of those cabinets are MICed. The Microphone is set to register at a certain gain level, so a lot of the harshness gets smoothed out by the mic. And the recorded track is what gets edited into the mix.

You're not hearing a miced version of your tone. You're hearing the raw deal from your amp/speakers. Plus, if your Mustang 3 is as new as I assume it is from your posts, your speaker is also brand-new. It will take weeks/months of you playing it (or a little bit playing it really loud) to "break in" the speaker. That will smooth out your highs and give you a better sound, no matter what amp you play through it.

It's a fact of all new speakers. You have to break them in just like you would a new set of brake shoes/pads or a new clutch in a car.
