The reason I bypass the Mustang amp entirely is because the "EMPTY" preset is actually a glitch in the DSP. I had it once on my Mustang V. But I get better signal from my Rocksmith USB cable anyway, so why would I do that?

That's cool, it sounds like you don't want/need to since you have a better alternative.

It might still be useful for someone who doesn't already have another purpose-built DI and doesn't care to invest in any more hardware--just for giggles, if nothing else, especially if they'd like to fool around with AmpliTube and its preamp emulations.

Definitely. My feature suggestion stands, because it'd be cleaner, but as a workaround in the meantime, it's a definite option.

Hi DarthGrumpy,

In Device Manager, you can look in the "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" list for a Mustang device. That may be easier than looking for the device ID. Also, I would suggest that you try our newest public beta build of Fender FUSE, which should improve connectivity with your PC. You can find that here: http://wpc.077d.edgecastcdn.net/00077D/ ... 6.1.35.exe. Please let us know how it is going. Thanks.

As it turns out, that's the version that I downloaded last night, and as I said, it still had trouble seeing the amp. This evening, I was completely unable to get it to connect. The device driver shows up in Device Manager, and I've uninstalled/reinstalled it multiple times now, but Fuse doesn't detect it.

As I said, I suspect my USB ports may be the culprit. The software company I do QA for has some USB appliances that our product interfaces with, and over the years, we've noticed a lot of issues with Dell's. That said, there's a lot of Dell's out there, and I've not noticed problems with any other devices.

One of the things we did with our software was add a menu option to invoke the search for the USB device, as apparently Windows notifications of it weren't always reliable. Something like that might be helpful.

An update to the situation... I was able to get input into Ableton from the amp, so the USB connection from the amp to the computer is good.

Try the "Empty" preset

Apologies if this has already been covered somewhere, but what exactly is this and how does one select it?

Device Manager ... one of the properties is Hardware ID ... you'll see a string of letters and numbers ...vendor ID ... find out Fender's assigned ID, and add it to a FAQ, it would be helpful in aiding users to identify which device is their amp. "USB Composite Device" is unfortunately pretty generic.

Thanks for the hint. I discovered another property: "Bus reported Device description." The value of this is "Mustang Amplifier" which seems pretty conclusive without needing to decode numeric IDs!

Yeah, I have a Rocksmith USB cable. But that's not the only interface I have. I picked up a Peavey PV-6 USB 4-port Mixer for my PC, so I can plug my guitar into THAT as well. hehe - I use that mixer to hook up my Shure SM57 microphone to record myself. It came with a excellent DAW called Reaper which is a lot easier to use and understand than Ableton is.

Was there a specific problem you corrected to make it work? (Might help someone else down the road.)

Nice, I'm vaguely considering a mixer too--though (i) I honestly don't spend enough time making music to justify it (in my own mind), and (ii) for sure wouldn't want to record myself "singing"! I can wear headphones practicing the guitar, but I think I'd have a hard time convincing the better half to wear headphones/earplugs if I start airing out the pipes...
