I get a burning smell when I crank it and play....I've had speaker glue burn, but that goes away....this doesn't seem like it's going away or it's taking a long time too...

the amp still works fine so I don't think it's fried components inside (but I'm going to check)....any ideas?

thanks

When you crank it enough to get the burning smell, touch the magnet structure of the speaker. If you've heated the voice coil enough to scorch it, the magnet should be at least warm to the touch. If the magnet is still room temp (or nearly so), I'd say the burning smell is coming from the electronics.

If you just turn the amp on, and run it at a lower volume for a period of time, does it start smelling then also??

no- normal volume is fine....when I crank it, the magnet does get warmer....no smoke and I don't notice any coil rub but it does clip pretty hard...probably burning it up..

nobody else has this problem?

Hi, I've had a Mustang III for about a year and I love the thing. Soon to get a IV for rehearsals and gigs.

I've also noticed that burning smell from my III when really cranking it. I haven't felt the speaker though. I will try that at the next rehearsal. I know that I'm replying to an old thread but just wondering if you ever figured out what it was?
