Hi everyone, I need some help with my new Mustang floor.

Here is the story, I've only used combo amps in the past and now I have a Mustang floor along with a Atomic 50W active speaker cabinet.

It's the floor into the cab and that's it.

I'm wondering - what should I use to connect the two? The 1/4" standard connection or the XLR connection? Admittedly, I don't even know what the XLR connection is for or if there is a benefit as such?

Also, what should I set the output on the Floor to - it's not a combo amp as such but would the self powered cab be considered a PA?

PA System, PA+Bass, PA+Treble, PA Mid-Scoop, Combo Amp, Combo+Bass, Combo+Treble, Combo Mid-Scoop, Stack Amp, Stack+Bass, Stack+Treble, Stack Mid-Scoop

I would *really* appreciate some direction and advice!

Thanks! :D

If both ends have XLR that would be better. It's a balanced line, which means you should get less noise. Obviously this assumes that the XLR cable is correctly wired for a balanced line, and that both sockets are true balanced connections - I assume the product docs will confirm this.

As for what output setting to use - try them all and use whichever one sounds best to you. Make sure you listen to each setting from a variety of angles and distances.

Hi domino.college,

As scott-uk has stated here (thanks scott!), balanced XLR is the way to go whenever possible. If your active speaker has balanced TRS 1/4" input(s), that can be a great way to go to. Unbalanced 1/4" is ok as well. Your product information for the speaker should indicate if the 1/4" jacks are balanced or not. If they are, and XLR jacks are not available, you can buy balanced TRS 1/4" shielded cables.

Regarding the voice setting on output from your Fender Mustang Floor, I would suggest auditioning a variety and see what sounds best to you. Also, when setting up the output/input levels between the gear, start with the Mustang Floor gain (back panel) set at 'noon', and add if you need. Please let us know if we can assist further. Thanks.
