I have a couple of questions about my Mustang IV. First of all, I LOVE the tones I get at home. I got lost in the mix in my band (5-piece with LOUD drummer), but did not have the amp tilted, so that may be a simple fix.

One question I have is about the stereo loop. I have never had a stereo loop before. If I understand correctly, putting a mono effect in the loop will only affect one side of the amp, i.e., one speaker. I want to put an MXR 10-band EQ in the loop, but want it to effect both speakers, i.e., the total output.

If I get two y-cables and hook up an MXR 10-band EQ into both sides of the loop, will that allow the EQ pedal to affect the total output on both speakers? Are there any drawbacks to this approach?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Others have suggested that boosting the mid-range EQ can help in this sort of situation.

Correct.

Yes that will work, with two caveats/drawbacks:

1. You'll lose all the stereo effects, you'll just end up with two mono channels the same as each other.

2. Mixing two signals (in this case, the L and R fx-send) with a Y cable is only an approximation, it won't preserve either signal properly. You really ought to use a proper 2-into-1 mixer. Or use a stereo EQ unit in the loop. Or two mono units, one for each channel.

Personally, I wonder if a 10-channel EQ is necessary or adds much more than the 3-channel EQ already on the amp? But each to their own, if it gives you the sound you want, it's the right thing for you.

Simple answer: because the EQ on the amp itself is "by preset" so if you would like to boost the mids, you need to tweak all of your presets and save them. A real PITA when you do a lot of different gig places.

Ah yes, of course, sorry I hadn't thought of that. Although I was really thinking more of the need for a *ten* band eq. I'm not aware of any stomp-boxes that can do that, you'd need to get a rack unit (or two stomp boxes). If fewer eq bands would suffice, there might be more chance of finding a floor unit that can do it in stereo.

Hi Metal70,

In regard to the mono EQ connected to the stereo effects loop, there are several ways you can do this. But you will end up with a mono output in these cases, other than the USB output. I would suggest another possibility - and that is Cab Sims. In the Amp menu on your amp (or the Advanced Amp panel in Fender FUSE), audition some of the various Cabinet Simulations.

You may find that one specific Cab Sim may meet your needs in terms of cutting through in your live situation. If that works, you can select that Cab Sim for the Presets you use live, and go with that. I hope this helps. Please let us know if we can assist further.

But that would have the same problem as bigdee noted: one would have to change every preset, every time one was in a different acoustic situation. Or is there a "master" cab sim one can apply across all presets?

Hi scott-uk,

Good point. So, I was saying that if you were to go with the 'Cab Sim' route, you would want to assign the selected Cab Sim to all the Presets you were going to use for your live show or other specific setting as there is no global Cab Sim or Voice setting in this amp. Please let us know if we can assist further.
