I was referring to fuse acting as the looper and not the mustang itself

That's a great idea and I hope Fender pick it up as a future idea for FUSE or related tools.

However, there's a practical problem with the current generation of Mustangs: the USB port on the amps can only send sound out, it can't receive sound back in again*.

So FUSE could receive the sound and "record" it to a loop, but wouldn't be able to play it back through the amp - at least not with USB. FUSE would need to play the sound through the PC's (analogue) sound output , and you'd have to connect that back to the aux-in of the amp - which would work but is a bit messy.

If you have to do that, then you could use any simple sound recording/playback utility on the PC, it doesn't need to be FUSE.

It's only then a small leap to use guitar software on the PC to provide a whole further suite of DSP effects in the amp's fx loop: maybe Fender could make a "virtual Mustang" - software that provides all the Mustang's modelling and effects on a PC, that one could insert in the fx loop of any amp (err, don't some other companies already do that?).

*Of course, sound over USB is just data the same as anything else, so in theory the amp could receive sound that way, but it isn't set up to do so - whether that's just a firmware limitation or it lacks the necessary processing power or additional hardware acceleration to deal with incoming USB sound in real time, I don't know.

Amongst others. Hence why my post said "err, don't some other companies already do that" :)

I just think it would be good for Fender to produce something themselves that could integrate nicely with the rest of their amps' features.

Perhaps, but on the other hand, there's also something to be said about having the company focus on musical instruments rather than branching out into every other area of item that may possibly be used to interface with their equipment.

If they get into computer plugin software, why not USB and audio interfaces? Where would it end??
