So i have a Mustang II, i love it and it's great but im looking for more effects. I stumbled apon the Floor and it looks awesome. however i was wondering if it would work with the Mustang II?
Would the Floor try to model a modeled amp?

I think there's supposed to be an "effects only" setting for the Fender Floor, but I'm not sure. I haven't seen one to try out yet.

Yes I'm pretty sure you can turn off the modeling, however i was wondering how the two sets of presets (floor and amp) would interact.

A Mustang amp won't interact at all with a Mustang Floor, in terms of the two units recognising that each other are there and co-operating on their effects behvaiour.

They will function as two completely separate units. So the audio output of the Floor will interact with the audio processing in the amp, but only in the same way as if you put any other stomp boxes, etc, inline with a Mustang amp.

So as long as you think carefully about which effects (including the amp simulation) you have enabled at each point in the signal chain (ie in which Mustang device they're enabled), then you could use this setup to increase the range of effects you can use.

(Note you can disable the amp simulation completely in the M Floor, but not in the amp).

Also, you have two connectivity options. You can put the M Floor either between the guitar and the amp, or in the effects loop of the amp.

Depends what you mean by "what would happen?" - the devices aren't going to stop you doing this, or magically make sure you get a great sound, or blow up, or anything like that. You'll just get the sound of double modelling. What else would you expect? In more detail:

If you have amp modelling turned on in a Mustang Floor connected to a Mustang amp, both units will apply their modelling to the audio signal. Neither unit will know anything about the other's modelling.

So the first unit will apply amp modelling to your raw guitar signal. The second unit will then apply modelling to the already-modelled audio signal. (nb which unit is 'first' and 'second' depends how you've wired them up, as per my previous post).

What this sounds like will depend what modelling settings you have chosen.

Whether it sounds good or not is down to your personal preferences.

The obvious question is: why do you want to do this and what type of sound are you trying to create?

If your actual question is: "I want to use a Mustang Floor and Mustang Amp together, to increase the range of effects (fuzz, chorus, phaser, reverb, etc, etc), but I'm worried about the double-amp modelling in such a setup" then again, as per my and others previous posts, you can turn off the amp modelling in the M Floor, so you can have all the other effects from both units and the amp modelling just in the actual amp. I suspect this is the most common way of using the two units together.

I think you'd be better off getting something other than the Mustang Floor. You already have these effects in the amp, and there are more versatile multi-fx units.

A Zoom G5 costs the same and has more to offer. Even a G3X, which costs a third less, has more to offer, though less foot switches.

There are also other options in the same price range.

Hi Guys,

I wanted to chime in and offer a bit of additional information. So, the Fender Mustang Floor and Fender Mustang I do not directly interact. However, you can certainly connect the two using the 1/4" output jack (L or R) from the Mustang Floor and go into the guitar input on the Mustang I. From there, you can bypass modeling on the Mustang Floor by pressing the Amp button. Then the device can be used as a dedicated effects unit.

You can also experiment with modeling on both units. You might want to choose a clean model on one and a high gain model on another. Also, in the Utility Menu on the Mustang Floor, you can select between a variety of different output Voice settings. These affect the timbre or overall tone of the output on the Mustang Floor. Please let us know if we can assist further.

Wow, many thanks for the replies. After looking through the floor specs and such, i have considered buying something equivalent for the diversity. however i was wondering what the max delay time is on the floor, as i am quite limited by the 1 sec amp delay

Hi zanar9786,

You are very welcome. The maximum delay time on the Fender Mustang Floor is 1110ms. So, I don't know if that will help in regard to what you are looking for. But, if you have any further questions, please let us know. Thanks.
