I have a Mustang V version 1 and I don't have any fizz problem, thank God.

AFAIK I was only the IIIs and not all had it (mine never seemed to develop it)

and I never heard it was actually isolated to the power supply, interesting...

it was reported as all models from III up (v1 only).

Here is the official response from Fender:

"Dear Fender Mustang Community,

We are aware of the various discussions regarding the “fizz” phenomenon, in which some Mustang amp users notice sound that they find undesirable. We researched the issue and found that under certain combined conditions, using certain settings and playing techniques, an artifact can be produced in Mustang III, IV and V amplifiers.

The simple truth is that while we were able to include great tones and many useful features into an extremely affordable box, within the vast array of sounds, some discerning listeners may consider the smallest sonic variable a limitation. Nevertheless, legions of Mustang amp users have proven and agree that the Mustang amplifier series delivers great value, versatility and sound.

As a forward-thinking company of musicians, we always welcome all consumer opinion and insight that helps drive our constant development of innovative new products. Technology moves fast, and so we continue to develop products that offer guitarists newer and better tools to make music.

Best Regards,
The Fender Tech Support Lab"

Is it just me or did that Fender letters sound an awful lot like "Jeez! It's a cheap modelling amp and it sounds pretty awesome! You guys find ONE THING WRONG out of all the sh** it can do and you b**** about it constantly! Nothing's ever good enough for you a**holes, is it?"

And you know, I kind of agree with them.

yeah I always felt that way too. "Guys, it's a 100 watt amp for $350, what do you expect?"

yea, no doubt.. at price break these are at, to say they are disposable commodities is fair. But some people do have more disposable income than others, so not everyone would feel comforted by these facts.

If money were not an object, I would certainly prefer to go the "Axe FX" route along with a tube driven power amp.

Hell, I own a Marshall JVM410 half-stack. You know where that amp sits? In its flight case. I use that case as a stand for a fan that blows at me at night while I sleep. The speaker cabinet hardly ever gets used other than as a shelf. Sometimes I plug one of my 1-watt Marshall heads into it, but it's usually only for a few hours before it gets disconnected and stacked back on the wall. The only guitar amplifier that's set up at all times is my Mustang V half-stack. What does that say about me?

As good as our tube amps are, there is something undeniably "cool" about having everything available in one amp, and all you really need is a single working cable.

Or not having to wait for tubes to warm up ... or not having to worry about redoing the EQ on the amp if you want to play quiet ... or if you want to bang your axe with cans on, or with an MP3 player hooked up at the same time ... though admittedly it sounds like crap through headphones compared to cranking the actual speakers (a bunch of people on these forums would disagree with me, but they probably also don't actually crank up the amp to VERY loud either...)

I have a feeling the Mustang V just sounds better at high volume. My Mustang III sounds a little "hollow" when I crank it. Probably would do better with a speaker change.

The speakers and cabinets in the two are totally different. The M3 has an open-backed cab with a single 100-watt Celestion G12T-100 (Hot 100) speaker. No focus. The M5 V412 cab has FOUR Celestion G12E-15 (Rocket 50) speakers in a CLOSED-BACK cabinet. Very tight bottom and sweet notes on top. A relatively neutral EQ curve to it. The V412 can handle 200-watts, nowhere near the power limit of the M5 amp. The G12T-100 is operating just barely within the power limits of the M3 amp.
