I just hope who ever the mods are in this place are paying attention to this thread. Thanx ffx and jeb... for telling us stuff that fender won't. Maybe only the programmers at fender know this stuff and they are keeping it to themselfs. Thanx again.

First of all, really awesome thread, I've just renamed my basic presets (90-100) to the right models :)

Next to that, not much news probably, but I've found that:

British Colour = Orange
British Watts = HiWatt
'60s Thrift = Silvertone

Would be awesome to hear the original poster elaborate on possible models or cabinets of these :D

For the effect pedals, seems to me that the GreenBox is the Ibanez Tube Screamer, not sure of the rest

I'd be happy to if Fender would send me a Fender Mustang V v.2 head. When I'm done, I could take it over to Lake Charles Music (authorized Fender dealer in this area) for them to sell it.

My local Fender and Orange dealer here finally got a Mustang 1 v.2 in and on the shelf, to I brought in my netbook with FUSE and a USB cable to try out the new amp sims.

Now, I'm not used to using the M1 and the 8" speaker, so I can't compare to the larger amps.

The Hi-Watt amp model sounded unusually hi-fi to me with its distortion. It kind of reminded me of the way a Randall Warhead sounds if you increase the treble.

The Orange OR50 amp..... Oh my God, I loved that model. And I could compare to an Orange Tiny Terror sitting right next to it. VERY nice crunch.

Studio-Preamp.... FINALLY. I don't know how many people have wanted this, but it's a lot. People wanting to use the Mustang as a recording input WITHOUT all the amp models and cabinet sims getting in the way. Very nice feature.

Not very familiar with the "60s Thrift" boutique amp, so I don't want to comment on it.

The '57 Twin-Amp was pretty nice in its own right...sort of a cleaner '57 Deluxe, but not nearly as clean as the '65 Twin-Reverb. It sort-of hits a sweet spot, especially with a strat.

I do not know how the original hiwatt DR103 sounds, but I agree the emulation has a pretty clear sound, two uses of this amp model for me are:

-SURF!: my favourite surf preset is based on this, has a lot more character than the traditional blackface/tweed surf amp preset IMO
-if you add some heavy saturation to it, it has a nice and trebly crunch, but with the characteristic that you can still play full chords without sounding muddy (as is the case with the plexi emulation for example)

agreed. I played around with this Amp model and changed the cab to the 4x12M which i thought thickened it up a bit but still retained its clarity. I then putzed around with an external Rat pedal as well as the Rat, Fuzz, and Blues Driver Models from my GT6. had some really cool tones Going. I plan on playing with this amp more over the weekend. My 65 Twin sound is locked so moving on to dialing the HiWatt and AC30. I will definately check out the Orange Amp model though after reading this.

So I tried to compile a new list of amp models for the new v.2 Mustang amps. Double-check me on this, because I'm not too familiar with the boutique amps.

1957 Fender Champ
1957 Fender Deluxe
1957 Fender Twin
1959 Fender Bassman Reissue (4x10)
1965 Fender Princeton Reverb
1965 Fender Deluxe Reverb
1965 Fender Twin Reverb
Fender Super-Sonic (burn channel)
[60's Thrift] 1965 Sears Silvertone Twin Twelve
[British Colour] Orange OR120
[British Watts] Hiwatt DR103
[British '60s] VOX AC30
[British '70s] Marshall 1959SLP
[British '80s] Marshall JCM800
[American 90s] Mesa Dual-Rectifier
[Metal 2000] Peavey 5150

Happy Day! Finally I found where somebody spent some effort explaining the Mustang amp. I need to reread the posts a couple more times to assimilate the info. HUGE Thank you. I have a Mustang III and love it.

Now to a nagging question I have.
I have pretty much divided my presets into 2 groups; headphones and speaker. Mainly because my headphones produce significantly more bass than what comes out of the speaker.

However, the problem that I have is that the amp is so friggin LOUD! Sometimes that is not a good thing, especially at 10pm after the kids have gone to bed or are screaming because they can't hear Spongebob on the TV downstairs and the headphones just aren't cutting it anymore (how can Paul Gilbert wear those headphones for an entire concert anyway?)

The Mustang's master volume goes from whisper to thanksgiving dinner volume as soon as you crack it up from 1. What can I do to quiet the whole thing down so I can have better overall volume control at non-offensive levels?

Lower the "volume" knob (not the master volume) and you will be fine. My master volume is always at 2.5 and I adjust preset loudness with volume knob

To account for differences between mustang speaker and phones/line-out you can use an external EQ as I explained in other posts

thank you. I remember awhile back I tried the volume, not master volume, trick. It didn't work like I had expected. However, I was screwing around with everything at the same time so I probably didn't give it a fair evaluation. I will now.

The advantage of having 100 presets is that I can split them into 2 groups and still have plenty left over. Once I get things dialed in, I don't use more than 6-8 at any given time. I also save off old ones to the PC for future reference or when I totally mess up a setting and need to start over.

Again, thank you for the fast response.

Hi FFXIhealer,

We wanted to chime in here and offer a big thank you for all the information that you have been kind enough to offer on this Forum. Your effort is very much appreciated. This thread covers a wide range of topics, some related to the Fender® Mustang™ and its features and functions specifically, and some that are more related to guitar amplifiers globally.

While it is difficult for Fender to jump in and discuss this wide range of related topics in detail, we are happy to assist and offer any information and insight we can for specific inquiries within this discussion. If anyone participating in this thread has a specific inquiry that we may be able to offer insight or assistance with, please let us know. Thanks once again to FFXIhealer for his contributions here.

Best Regards,

Alan
