I had my first gig with my two weeks old Mustang III last evening. I play in a cover band, mostly blues, oldies and rockabilly type of songs. I've made five presets that I use, and they are all very subtle. No modulation, just basic amp-settings with some reverb. In front I have keeley modded Blues Driver, and a Boss Overdrive that has been modded to a TS808 brown mod. This amp just rocked! And I got some really good bluesy tones from this.

In a setting like this, I believe that not a single person in the crowd would notice that this is not a tube-amp. And would they care? They were there for the music, to dance and have a good time, and my guitar sounded like a guitar.

I've ordered the four-button foot switch. It's hopeless to use the two-button switch in a live setting, so I had to go to the amp every time I had to switch to another preset. The amp got a little dirty during transportation and rigging up, so I have to get me a cover for the amp.

The amp delivered. Volume at 5, and I had a perfect monitor that filled up the stage and was loud and clear through vocals, drums and bass.

My amp has that digital noise that you can hear especially on clean settings. In a gig setting, that noise was covered up with everything else that was going on, so I don't think anybody noticed.

Looking forward to next gig. :)

I had a Mustang V and it really sounded good at gig levels through a 2 x 12 with two Texas Heats. It did not work out to well in my studio work though, it was large and I could notice that digital noise. I sold it and bought a Fender Floor. It is working a lot better in my studio work and I think it sounds better through the monitors.

I am now using, or setting up a Zoom G5, to work with my tube amps for live jamming. I feel that the Zoom G5 is a lot more intuitive than the Fender Floor for live stuff and it is also a lot more flexible. I can have nine effects in any order in the chain of the Zoom G5 and I use it mostly for the modulations, but there are some nice eq's, compressors, exciters and some of the overdrives are actually usable. It also has a sixty second looper with drums.

The one thing that sucks about the Zoom G5 is the scroll for the pedals in the chain, but there is a mod that allows you to have the scroll in a pedal at your feet. It really blows that you have to start drilling and soldering on a $300.00 pedal to make it more ergonomic and functional.

I used my Mustang I for a gig last night. I was hired by a friend to play a fundraiser, it was just me, him & his wife. He plays keyboards & had backing tracks loaded on his laptop. I used a patch cord and ran the Mustang thru the PA. This way he was able to adjust the volumes.

One of the secret service agents plays guitar and he was checking out my Strats & Mustang setup.

I do everything with my Mustang IV practice, jams, gigs! No issues with noise or fizz just great tones.
