I agree. However, as the original poster (OP) said two weeks ago "I'll definitely be getting the II" and hasn't been seen here since, is it worth continuing the discussion?

Can the OP let us know what he eventually bought and his initial thoughts on it please?

I like all the Mustang amps, I have had the II for over a year and have a lap top only for that amp. I play in bars, small clubs even out door festivals. The 40 watts has been enough power. The cleans are clean and other tones are fantastic. I have two big power amps, a Vox AC30 and a Fender Ultimate Chorus. The thing is I have to carry these things in and out of the events I play at. I don't need another monster. The Mustang II comes through and my back is getting better.

I had on order the Mustang II. I reviewed a lot comparing the II & III after I ordered the II. I ended up cancelling the II and went with the III...glad I made that choice. So many parameters can be accessed without a computer/laptop. Haven't gone through everything as yet since i just got it today. It sounds great and it holds its setting at very low volume so can be used in small rooms and not disturb others or in larger rooms for gigs where you can make it scream.

Doesn't take up much room and is light enough to take with you.

I posted in this thread when I had a II

Now I have a III - there's no contest - none whatsoever - the III is better in every respect (but it's bigger and heavier).
The ability to reach out and adjust tone - a knob push or two and you can adjust stomp/delay.. everything - right there. Plus it sounds a lot better.
MII is a great little amp but the III is phenomenal.

I'm in total agreement with all of the guys above who recommend the MIII for all the reasons they mention. As far as not having enough volume for the larger gigs, in most of those situations there is a PA involved. And the MIII has stereo XLR outs for going directly into the PA. The MII does not have this feature. I think Fender should have put at least one XLR out on all of these amps. I have two MIII's and a MI. For the MIII's I use the two button and four button footswitches. Don't have the pedal, but.... :)
If you buy the MIII, you can handle just about any situation that comes up. And they are right, the volume control gives you wonderful sound at low volumes as well as high. The difference in size between the two is negligible. So the III will take just a few cubic inches more space than the II.

You won't regret the III. You may find the II just barely cutting it and wishing for more.

+1 Any guitarist who is serious about the instrument will outgrow the MII fairly quickly.

Thought I would mention this about the XLR out thing... my MIII is a "V1"... without the XLR out. There's a way around it. All you need to do for a direct line out is go out the effects "Send".. through a DI box.. and whamm-o... you have direct line to the PA.
Been doing this and it works wonderfully.
Sure I'm not the only one out here using an "V1"... hope this helps.

Following this thread I have to ask, Would anyone here trade in a Classic 30 for this amp new?
I'm really on the fence about this.

Why not keep the Peavey, and buy the Mustang, too? You'll have the best of both worlds: A GOOD sounding tube amp with a nice flexible gain channel for those times when you can use it, and a great modeller to record/practice/gig with when you need a variety of sounds. (and can't be bothered to hook up/haul around a fully loaded pedal board)

You can get a pretty decent price on a used one. I got mine off craigslist for a pretty good price, and it was worth every penny. I also have- and use- a nice hybrid/tube amp for those times when I can turn it up. I'd love to get my hands on a good, retro sounding all tube amp, but I can't really justify getting a THIRD amp when I don't even gig.

If I did, the Peavey Classic series is HIGH on my list, as is a Blues Deluxe, a Supersonic 60, or just about any amp from Tone King, lol. All the above simply make the sounds I want to hear without any fuss or excessive fooling around.
