So, I had a gig tonight and powered up for the second set and the amp just went weird. Kept scrolling through what looked like a testing phase and I couldn't get it to stop. Later on, I noticed the tap/tuner button was stuck in the "on" position and that's what caused the malfunction. So all is well after all. At the same time I'd like to know what alternate world I had stumbled into. Does anyone have any explanation for the point in powering up with the tap/tuner button held down? What purpose does it seem to serve?

Exactly what you saw. It's a systems self-test. In that mode, you can turn all of the dials and see what data the computer is receiving from them. Use that mode to verify all of your knobs work properly, as well as all of the buttons and the multi-wheel.

Thanks for the info FFIX. I guess this might be useful when something doesn't work. Hopefully I'll never need it! It was a freak accident the tap button got stuck in the on position, 'cause now I can't get it to stick, but it caused the show to come to a standstill while I got out my spare GDEC 3 Thirty, which performed admirably in a fairly loud show.

I wonder what knob is P7. And if Master really isn't digitized, there may be no hope for my multi-profile volume knob idea.

Yeah, the Master Volume knob isn't connected to the DSP chip, so you wouldn't see it on the LCD during the self-test. It's hard-wired to the power-amp, which is why it works for all modes.

Global functioning doesn't mean by itself that the MV skips the firmware. But no info for it in diagnosis mode, and the fact that it still controls power amp gain in this mode, is sadly suggestive.
