Hey guys,

this one took a lot of tweaking and the match is not 100% but I think is close enough (and is the only usable configuration I have found for the Fuzz stomp!)

Boss DS-1 very aggressive distortion settings
Gain = 75%
Tone = 60%
Level = 35%

Mustang equivalent using Fuzz stomp
Level = 4
Gain = 9
Ocatavian = 5.5
Low = 1
High = 6

Boss DS-1 more usable distortion settings
Gain = 30%
Tone = 60%
Level = 30%

Mustang equivalent using Fuzz stomp
Level = 4
Gain = 5
Ocatavian = 9
Low = 1
High = 6

Please notice that not only gain but tone stack settingsd change on Mustang when changing gain on the DS-1

Enjoy!

You could use FUSE if you like but you can adjust all those parameters from the amp display.

BTW I use a strat middle bridge (Texas Special) and volume up to 6 on the guitar. Your mileage may vary with other pickups.

Thanks. I will set my G-DEC to hear those tones.
Maybe become pedal-less :lol:

that's the spirit! :)

actually as I am new to guitar playing I don't have any "legacy" equipment or preferences and so far the Mustang has everything I can think of built in, except maybe a looper and an harmonizer

How about a headphone jack?

Hey Toppscore,

I don't know about the gdec but Mustang amps come with a headphones jack (my wife and kids can testify to it)

G-DEC does. I just bought a 1994 Fender Custom 1962 Reissue Jaguar.
The seller included an 8" Fender Frontman with a headphone jack.

Hey jedi2b so the fuzz stomp clones the DS1 distortion pedal? I'm been looking to get this pedal for my mustang 2.

Absolutely!
These modeling amps can and do clone most any popular sound
from famous amps, famous guitars/pickups, famous pedals/effects, etc.

The Mustangs & G-DECs are very reasonably priced.
Toppscore :)

Not sure. Ask Fender.
I would have no interest, personally
to hook non fender pedals & switches to Fender amps.
Especially, technically advanced Fender amps.

Assuming by 'pedal' you mean stomp boxes (distortion, wah, other effects etc) then yes you can use those with the Mustang. You can put them between the guitar and the amp, or (on the Mustang models that have it) in the fx loop, exactly the same as you would with any other amp.

The thing to be aware of is the amp is adding its own modelling and effects, so you want to avoid these interfering with your external pedal effects. So you'll either want to turn off the amp's effects, or understand and play around with the settings to achieve a combined effect whose sound you like. NB I'm not talking about turning off the amp modelling in the Mustang, you leave that on (in fact you can't turn it off) - but I assume you want the amp modelling, otherwise you wouldn't have bought the Mustang in the first place!

Finally, as I think this may have been an implicit part of your question: the FUSE software will know nothing about your external pedals; it won't know or care that they're there, you can't adjust them with it, or anything like that. But it won't stop them working or prevent you using them either. Also the same the other way around: your external pedal will have no effect on the amp settings, it knows nothing about the amp's effects and can't control them.

There are loads of other topics that discuss this: both connectivity in general for external stomp boxes and how to get the best sounds with particular pedals in conjunction with the Mustang. Worth searching through the forum to see what others have done and advice that has been offered. The Fender staff in particular have posted many times explaining how to connect external devices to the Mustangs.

I am thinking of the dedicated amp channel switchs, reverb/vibrato type switch,
four-button pedal/switches or those big foot-controllers Fender
offered with Cyber Twins and similar amps. Toppscore 8)

Of course, stomp pedal types should be fine.

As discussed copiously in several other topics recently, eg:
viewtopic.php?f=27&t=72065

the only footswitches that work with the Mustangs are the ones made specifically for it, viz:
Mustang 3/4/5 MS-2 Two-Button Footswitch: 0080997000
Mustang 3/4/5 MS-4 Four-Button Footswitch: 0080996000
Mustang 1/2 One-Button Footswitch: 0994049000
Mustang EXP-1 Expression Pedal: 2301050000

This is because (for the Mustang 3/4/5 at least) they are not simple switches at all, but controllers that interact with the specific features/interface of the Mustang amps. I believe (but don't have one so can't confirm) the Mustang 1/2 footswitch is just a simple switch.

In particular, the G-DEC amp's "ULT-4" 4-button footswitch, which looks similar to the Mustang MS-4 footswitch, isn't suitable for the Mustang amps. From other posts, it looks like it may partially work in some situations, but certainly not fully or reliably.

Also, contrary to what some people seem to have been told in shops, you can't use the Mustang Floor as a foot controller for a Mustang amp. The Mustang Floor is a totally separate, self-contained device.

People have asked Fender, in other topics, for a foot controller for the Mustangs similar to that for the Cyber Twin, etc. Fender have responded that they've taken the request on board, but can't comment on whether or when they'll ever produce such an item.
