I have a mustang III running with a sonic stomp. I have been looking at the zoom g3 effects and amp simply pedal. It looks totally awesome. Would it run ok on my clean channel? Would i lose sound quality. One other question too, would using monster cables improve my quality of sound?

Assuming you're asking about the setup:
Guitar -> Zoom G3 -> Mustang

You wouldn't lose "quality" as such, but it may not give the sound you expect. You're proposing running a modelling/effects unit into an amp that inherently includes a modelling/effects unit. So you're adding one set of modelling and effects on top of the other which will affect the sound. You need to set everything up with that in mind, then I'm sure you'll get good sounds. Of course though, the whole point of amps like the Mustang is that it already includes the effects unit, so you don't need an external one too.

I'm not sure what you mean by "clean channel" - the Mustang amps don't have a completely "clean" option, there's always at least the amp modelling.

Haha the topic of audio cables is a massive can of worms, misinformation and dogmatic opinion. My personal view: avoid cheap cables and connectors (eg under £10 / $15). But you don't need to spend a fortune to get a good sound. I use instrument cables costing £15-£20 (up to $30), with high-quality flexible shielded cable and gold-plated plugs (specifically, if anyone's interested, Vandamme cable with Neutrik plugs, but there are plenty of brands very similar in that price range). I'd defy anyone, in a blind listening test, to hear any better quality from anything more expensive.

I concede possibly other factors may come into play if you need very long cables in very noisy (as in electrical interference noise) environments, necessitating specialised cables.

As I keep trying to tell myself: 99% of the sound is what your fingers are doing on the strings. Focus on getting that right and don't worry too much about the rest. The best cables (and other equipment in the world) won't make a bad guitarist sound good. But the best guitarists still sound the best even when using bad equipment.

The OP should use "effects only" which means no amp or cab simulation. I think it would sound great, no special cables needed. The G3 is exceptionally quiet as far as hiss is concerned. Go for it!

I almost got a Zoom G3 last week, but I ordered the Zoom G5 instead. I hope it is as silent as you say the G3 is, as you mention. I am setting up another practice and recording rig and I just felt the Zoom G5 had a little more bang for the buck. I really like the fact that I can have up to nine effects and arrange them in any order and it also has a 60 second looper. If my Mustang Floor could do that, it would be awesome, because I really like the tone and all of the outs the Floor unit has..

Had a Zoom G3 - just sold it. It sounded AMAZING. I mean better than the BOSS GT-100, better than the Line 6 HD stuff, etc.... I went back to a Mustang III for pure ease of use and the fact that we also have a Mustang III at church so we can share patches.
