Can you use the FUSE software?

Hi stratotak,

After listening to the audio sample that you uploaded, it sounds like there may be either a grounding issue or interference occurring. Are you using a desktop or laptop computer? Also, if you are on a laptop, do you have the power adapter connected to the wall while you are using the amp? Additionally, are you using the build in audio hardware on your PC? Finally, it may be helpful for us to try to recreate this here. Can you upload the Preset you used to record the audio with and link to it so we can check that out? Thanks very much.

P.S. If you happen to have a device that is transmitting/receiving data such as a mobile phone in close proximity to your equipment, it is possible that it could have an affect in this way as well.

Good to know cell phones or IPads might be a factor.

It' a laptop.Plugged into surge protector with other devices like TV plugeged into it.Its using the built in Real sound device.
It really dosent matter preset as Its there all the time. I thought it might be USB crosstalk.

To be clear: it's extremely unlikely this problem is being caused by interference on the digital signal. If the digital signal were being corrupted in any way, it's more likely that the audio wouldn't work at all (or be badly broken up rather than lightly distorted).

You're getting interference on the analogue audio at some point. That has to be either at the guitar input to the amp, or at the output from your soundcard to the computer speakers. Everything in between is digital.

I'm not disputing Fender's suggestion that the cause of the issue could be ground loop etc. But let's dispel the myth that that sort of interference on a digital signal leads to matching interference on the audio signal encoded within that digital signal. It doesn't.

Do you mean you hear the noise if listening to the Reaper output 'live' while you play?

What about if you record the sound digitally using Reaper, then play it back later on the computer (without the Mustang connected)? Do you still hear the noise then? If you don't, that shows that the digital recording itself (and thus the USB data) is clean, and that the interference was being introduced during the 'live' playback. If the noise is there, then it's likely it was introduced right back at the guitar input to the amp.

Quote:

Do you not hear it through the amp, both with and without the USB connected to your computer and Reaper recording? If there's no noise through the amp in either case, then the problem is being introduced at the (analogue) speakers in the computer playback. If you do hear the noise through the amp when the USB is plugged in, then the noise is being introduced at the guitar input.

If the answers to the above two tests are the same, then you at least have pretty good confirmation of where the noise is being introduced, if not a solution to prevent it.

If the answers to the above two tests are different, then there's something else involved here we don't yet know about.

are you saying it is "impossible" or "probably not" that digital signals can be interrupted?

Which digital signals?
I have a G-DEC which processes internally.
But from guitar to the GDEC processor is analog
and from the GDEC to the speaker is analog.
Obviously, from the computer via USB to the GDEC digital.
Where in this link are you or the OP stating the problem lies?

On the contrary; in general, it's both possible and probable that a digital signal can be interrupted. What I'm suggesting is that the symptoms of such interference would be different than the OP is observing, and that therefore the source of the OP's interference is more likely to be in the analogue parts of the system rather than the digital (USB) interconnections.

I'm not stating anything, just offering hopefuly helpful suggestions. I thought I'd been clear in my previous reply, but I'll repeat it here worded differently in case I wasn't: the noise is most likely being introduced either in the analogue connection from the guitar to the amp (including the ADC circuitry processing that input signal into digital), or the analogue connection from the computer output to the speakers (including the DAC circuitry and any analogue amp in the chain, either in the computer or external). My previous reply suggested tests that would narrow down which of these is the culprit. Everything else in between these two is digital and extremely unlikely to be the cause of this particular problem - at least as I understand it from the information given. There could of course be other factors involved we don't know about yet.

Hi stratotak,

Thanks for your reply and information. Based on what you are telling me, I would suggest taking things down to a basic testing setup briefly. I would go with the amp and the laptop (not connected to the power supply) only. And you may want to try connecting the amp to a separate breaker/outlet from the TV and other electronics as well. See if there is any difference in the interference you are hearing. If the audio signal is corrected, then you know that something is interfering with the signal. Then it is a matter of figuring out what is causing the issue. A surge protector is unlikely to have an effect either way on interference or ground loop/noise issues. Please check things out and let us know how it is going. Thanks.

I have to unplug my laptop from the wall when I use the USB or I get noise. That stops it.

Hi somethingelse11,

My guess would be that you have a ground loop or some other interference going on. If disconnecting the power supply stops it, I would suggest trying another circuit in the building, or simply use the amp without the power supply connected. Please let us know if we can assist further.
