I'm new to the multieffects all in one, as I'm ditching individual pedals for a board, but it seems much simpler and it's easier to consolidate. That being said, I like the options that the Mustang Floor presents. I've looked at many options, mainly the HD 500 and the Zoom G5, but for what I play (blues, classic rock, country, Christian) I like the Floor with my Blues Junior. My main question is, how does the "patch" system work? I thought the Line 6 website was good as it was very user friendly when I looked online and was able to scroll through the thousands of patches. Looking at the Fender website, it seemed like it was a lot less user friendly. Is that just me? Do you just dial in what you want on the board, upload/download via USB, and will ALL of the Mustang (I-IV) patches work with the Floor? Can you adjust the presets to your liking and then store them in another bank while keeping the presets? Can you make a bank all of your own? I know this is all probably pretty simple once I buy, but I just wanted to try and clear up some questions before I bought.

Thanks for the help.

Also, does anyone have any Christian patches out there? (mainly Hillsong)

As far as I'm aware, all Mustang patches work on all Mustang products.

On the M I and II you can edit/save some settings directly on the amp, and store 24 presets on the amp.

On the M III, IV, V and Floor you can edit/save most settings directly on the amp/Floor, and store 100 presets.

With Fuse and a PC (connected via USB) you can edit/save all settings on the amp/Floor, and also upload/download between amp/Floor and PC - either individual presets or a full backup.

All presets are overwriteable. You can't save more than 24 or 100 presets (depending on model, as above) on the amp/Floor (to answer your question "store them in another bank while keeping the presets"). However, you can save an unlimited number of presets on your PC, and have any 24 or 100 of them on the amp/Floor at any time.

When you save anything on the amp, it is permanently saved, even if you turn the amp off, disconnect your PC etc. Next time you turn the amp on, your new settings are still there, and will stay there until you change them and save something else in their place. (you didn't explicitly ask about that, mentioning for completeness). You don't need to leave the PC connected in order to preserve custom settings.

You can download presets from the online Fuse library to your PC, and then transfer them (using Fuse) to your amp/Floor. You can also upload any presets you create and want to share with the community.

You can do a factory reset of your amp/Floor to restore the original presets. You can also download the full set of original presets from the Fender website.

I think that answers all your questions.

All of this is covered in the product documentation, downloadable from the Fender website. Probably worth a read before purchase if you want to make sure the Mustang definitely does what you need.

Just to note that while the Mustang 1 and 2 can load any of the 100 factory presets that come with the bigger models, they actually only have 24 slots on the amps for storage, unlike the 3, 4 and 5 amps that have 100. Storage of presets on you PC is of course almost unlimited.

There is no provision on any of the amps for grouping presets into parent 'banks' with groups of similar presets stored within them - although it may be possible to do that on the Floor or to achieve something similar with foot-switching ? - so organising your presets, especially for live playing, does take a bit of thought and planning. I tend to have the 4 or 5 that I use live in sequential numbered slots and also have a couple of 'empty' slots both before and after them, for clarity and safety.

Having 100 individual slots can be both a blessing and a curse - especially when so many of the 100 presets that come with the larger amps seem to me to be pretty dispensible !

Apologies. Original post corrected.

Indeed yes. Although there's no formal structure of 'banks' the footswtich "mode 2" lets you jump through the presets ten at a time, then up/down individual presets.

So you could either use this just as a quick way to jump to a distant preset, or logically group your presets into banks of ten.

Thanks Scott, cleared up my questions. I have downloaded the manual and looked at it, just wanted some feedback.

One last question I have is that I have played on a couple of boards and some kept the patch, bank, preset (whatever you want to call it) playing as I tapped through the other banks/presets and didn't start the "new" one until you tapped on it.

Example: I'm in bank 1-4 and I want to get to bank 5-4. I keep playing as I'm clicking through because I'm about to switch to the next bank and I'm on bank 5-4 on the display, but I haven't clicked over yet and I'm still playing 1-4 settings, yet it's not on the display.

I don't know if this makes sense to anyone, but if it does, does the Floor let you do that or as soon as you change a bank on the Floor, it changes your settings? I know that the few Boss boards I've played did.

Thanks for the help!!

The Mustang amps don't have this "pre-select" feature - at least not that I've discovered! As soon as you move to a new bank/preset, the sound changes. I suspect the Floor is the same (but I don't have a Floor so can't confirm). I agree a pre-select would be very useful.

A related point that I haven't checked on my amp yet: I don't know if, when you change preset, the reverb and delay tails from the previous preset continue. Obviously they should, but sadly on a lot of multi-fx units they don't.

But then, my goal with the Mustang is for it to be a fun tool to help me improve and enjoy what my fingers do on the guitar, not to be the ultimate do-everything fx unit. So I try not to worry about such imperfections. Obviously different people have different needs.
