I was playing the other day and left the amp on while I left the room and all of a sudden it started making extremely loud noises and static. I ran back to the room and turned it off, but I think it killed something in the power amp side of things. I pulled the amp apart because I figured it was dead, and once all apart it at least through the headphone jack appears to be somewhat okay. I am guessing that this means the issue is downstream for sure like maybe an IC on the power amp. Is there any possibility of getting a schematic for this portion of the amp or at least a push in the right direction as to what the issue is?

Hi fenstebreaker,

I'm sorry to hear that your amp is not functioning. Please send along an email with your real name, Forum name and amp serial number as well as your contact information, and I will be happy to look into it further for you. Also, please include the purchase date and the retailer you purchased from. Thanks.

I have fixed the problem, I'm not sure what exactly I did, but I think maybe the firmware got corrupted by a small power surge or something because the amp works for the most part with some static when powering on after reinstalling the amp into the cabinet and doing a factory reset followed by a firmware update. Initially it was still having static issues with the updated firmware, but after I updated Fuse it seems to have righted itself entirely.

That is both fortunate and strange.

Maybe something is not sinking heat properly?

I may have spoken too soon, I have now sort of found the problem again, but it only comes back when playing on presets with time-based modulation effects or reverb like the neil-deluxe setting or most settings based off the twin reverb. At first I will get a single splash of static then if I don't change to a different preset it almost acts like a feedback loop and will degrade to pure static. Change to any of the British amp presets without other effects and it goes away. The amp is usable, but not fully featured enough for me to call it fully cured.

Hmmm, first I think it unlikely the firmware would be affected by a power surge, unless there were a serious problem with the power supply allowing mains voltage into the digital electronics. Second, if the firmware did become corrupted, it's more likely that the amp would be completely dead rather than just having distorted audio.

You could do an experiment: start with a completely clean amp model, no effects at all. Then add effects, one at a time. See if a particular effect, on its own with no others, causes the distortion. Then see if that distortion changes as you change the volume. Then see if you still get the distortion through the headphones and usb audio outputs.

If the problem doesn't exist through headphones/usb, then my guess/theory is that one of the modulation effects is creating a particular pattern in the waveform that is interacting with a possible fault in the power amp.

If distortion is still there through headphones/usb, then you could try another factory reset as that would suggest the problem is in the digital modelling section.

It's unlikely the problem is in the pre-amp section (before the modelling) as then you'd hear it on all settings.

Just some thoughts, hopefully helpful...

Hi fenstebreaker,

At this point I would suggest that you try a reset on the amp (press/hold Exit button on start up). If the behavior continues, you can try a firmware reload. But it would be my guess that the amp may have a hardware issue. Please check out these couple of items, do a bit of testing, and let me know how it goes. Do be sure (if you have not already) to check the amp with a second guitar and cable. And let me know how it goes. Thanks.

just following up. I want to thank Fender and you Alan for being so helpful. It was necessary to replace the amp and your customer service made the ordeal as painless as humanly possibly. Thank you again.
