Hi, I think there is a related discussion to this in other topics, but I haven't seen the following asked (or answered!) as a direct question anywhere, and it's been driving me mad all evening trying to figure out how to do this...

Suppose I create a new preset in FUSE, and setup amp model, effects, etc. Then I 'save' it. It gets saved to the PC. It's also 'active' on the amp, but not 'saved' on the amp, at this point.

Question: how do I save it to the amp using FUSE, from the preset editor screen?

It appears I can save the preset on the amp itself by pressing the amp's 'save' button. Also, in Fuse, I can go to the 'Media Library' screen, hunt for my preset, right-click it and say "Save Preset To Amp..." (but it took me a long time to find that!)

But the obvious, intuitive, useful place to have the "Save to Amp" option - RIGHT THERE ON THE PRESET EDITOR SCREEN WHERE I'VE JUST SETUP THE PRESET - seems to be missing.

Am I overlooking the obvious, or does the option really not exist on the preset editor screen? (NB the option does exist if I start with a preset on the amp, edit it, and then 'save' it; but not if I start with a brand new preset)

If the option doesn't exist on that screen, then: kind Fender people who read this forum, please ask your nice FUSE developers to add this option!

Thanks,
Scott

Hello Scott,
In your media library screen, under the computer tab right click the desired preset and select "save to amp". You can do the same in reverse for saving presets from the amp to the computer library.
Also, under the preset info tab you can save a description of what the preset may be used for soundwise. This is helpful to remind yourself or let the community know about it, if uploaded to the internet.
hope this helped.

I think you're right, Scott. Save to Amp and Save to Computer should each have their own dedicated button. Why do UI designers think it's okay to make users have to look for it or even have to "right click" to use a function that they know we'd be using ALL THE TIME?

I'd happily have a smaller amp graphic for more dedicated controls. The picture of the selected amp model is unnecessarily huge and is hogging all the UI's real estate. All that needs to be seen is the control panel with its associated graphic and a small bit of its "tolex" covering for that make and model. This would also make more room for larger text, buttons and knobs for the other controls. Besides that, there's already a full representation of the amp next to the Stomp Boxes. It's completely, utterly, pointlessly huge. Yet all the other more important and more often used things in the UI seem to have been relegated to tiny icons/buttons of "afterthought" status.

I also think that the "Advanced Amp Settings" should always be visible.

I have suggested more than once that the 'right click save to amp' process should be stick-ied on this forum, since it gets asked all the time, but there is no sign of it happening.

The Fuse GUI is pretty but I have to agree that it could be way more intuitive and functional, and the so-called 'advanced' manual could be much improved too.

Thanks for replies. At least I know it's not me who's going mad! I agree, the hidden "right click" behaviour is obscure (and completely undocumented) and the software, while offering great features, does have a non-intuitive layout / behaviour.

Right-clicking on a UI is so ridiculously 1990's. I'm not saying it should go away, but it shouldn't be necessary for common day to day functions. In this day and age, that's just idiotic.

Image A friend of mine once told me that every UI designer should read this book. It should be their bible.

Hi Guys,

Firstly, we appreciate your feedback. It is a very important consideration when it comes time to look at requests and ideas for how we can improve Fender FUSE. And I can assure you all that I and others here at Fender are listening and making sure that this feedback gets to the right people. I cannot guarantee that all feature requests will get incorporated into the software. But we definitely are listening. We very much appreciate your patience while we continue to work to make Fender FUSE a better software application.

Personally, I think right-click "context" menus can be quite useful, if used consistently. The problem in Fuse is that it doesn't use them in general: everything is on buttons (admittedly fiddly small ones!) and the main menu bar. So it's unexpected and unintuitive to discover that one critical operation is hidden on the only right-click menu in the app.

Alan, thanks, I hope my and others' comments help you improve Fuse - it's a great tool, just needs a few wrinkles ironing out...
