Hi Everyone.
Is there a way that I can change the settings on my Mustang1 amp, so it is, in the correct "amp model", like an original "just out of the box"?
I wanted to change the setting on the '57 Delux and '59 Bassman so there was NO effects, etc, and everything (vol/Bas/treb etc) was inactive, so I basically have those amplifiers that I can fiddle about with from scratch each time I turn it on. I have a Gretsch "Eddie Cochran" hollow body, and all the preset modes sound terrible (maybe because they are designed for solids?)
Is there a way to make these settings clean so they resemble the original amps as they were when you first got them home?

Well, if you want to do it from the amp itself, the best you can do is twist the mod knob on and then off. Then twist the delay knob on and then off. That turns off any mod and and any delay effects. Then turn each of the gain, volume, treble and bass knobs. That activates those knobs and puts you in control of their levels. Try that on one of the presets like '57 Deluxe, '59 Bassman or '65 Twin Reverb (though it works on all of them), and see if that helps.

This is only temporary unless you are using one of the green or red presets and push save twice. Otherwise, each time you change presets, all of the settings, including the ones you just changed for whatever preset you had been using go back to what they were. To get back to the "no effect" basic sound, you would have to do the same thing again each time you change a preset or turn the amp off and on.

You can also change the presets (including the amber presents) to remove all effects by using the Fuse software on your computer to modify the presets and save that to the amp, and then the changes will "stick" even if you change presets or turn the amp off but that is a whole other topic.

I wish there was a "linear" model in the Mustang amps. Sometimes, when using pedals, I would like to be able to amplify the input with no coloration/effects from the amp.

There are "Basic" amp presets in the Mustang III, IV & V.
You can upload them in your amp.

Thanks for the help folks.
The software I have was playing up so I ended up doing it "by hand" in the way descibed here. I merely put all the amps on the green light, one at a time, and fiddled around with all the dials, making sure i left them all at "0" (or the effects ones with no active lights) then SAVED it! How could I have been so stupid to not have realised it were that simple. I now have an amplifier which works!

Hi mark09102001,

It sounds like you have things sorted out pretty well. I just wanted to add that with the use of the Fender FUSE editing software you can dig into the model's settings such as Bias and SAG (tube emulation behavior), noise gate, etc. as well as parameter control for the effects as well. Please let us know if we can assist further.

I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to add my $.02 because I had the same question when I started playing around with my Mustang I.

The labels on the Preset knob are a little misleading because you are led to believe that the Amber presets are just those "naked" amp models. It's not until you connect to the amp with FUSE and see the different Preset labels that you realize the Amber "G" is not just a plain "out of the box" '59 Bassman.

It really confused me at first. The 2-page manual does not explain it very well, and it wasn't until I found this thread that I confirmed what I figured I'd need to do to get "naked" amp sounds in the Amber banks to match up with the labels - connect via FUSE, remove all effects, save back to the amp.

Hi kwimberly,

I apologize for the confusion you encountered. With any of the banks, you can turn the MOD and DLY/REV knobs to zero, and the amp model will be dry and without effects. But I take your point and will pass along your feedback here. Please let us know if we can assist with anything further. Thanks.
