Hi,

Can anyone suggest Mustang amp/effect settings (or does anyone know of an existing preset) to obtain Mike Campbell's guitar sound at the start of this track:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=735dXdC7i9A
or
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49xVyScDT44

The guitar I'm using is a Gibson LP Standard, so twin humbuckers, if that makes a difference to anyone's recommendation.

My problem is that the Mustang has so many options I don't even know where to start homing-in on this sound!

(Or even if you don't have a suggestion, if you haven't already heard it the above track is a great cover version worth listening to :D - enjoy)

Cheers,
Scott

(Replying to my own question for the benefit of anyone else who may be interested...)

It looks like Mike Campbell uses four main amps in parallel, in varying mixes, with the overall sound going through the PA for large venues:
- Fender Princeton
- Fender Deluxe
- Fender Vibratone (driven from a second Princeton)
- Vox AC-30

So, looks like a Mustang is a good starting point to try and emulate such a Fender-based sound! But as I can't have multiple amps in one Mustang, I'll have to see what I can do with a mixture of amp models and cab sims.

Effects-wise there's a whammy (pitch-shifting/vibrato) pedal, delay pedal (digital?), cry-baby/vox wah pedal and camel-toe overdrive pedal. Plus some digital modelling I don't have details for and some other stuff not really tone-related.

I think most of the sound I want will come from the amp settings so I'll focus on those - keep it simple and not overdo it with other effects.

I use Tech 21's Liverpool Pedal (love this pedal) in combination with a clean amp tone on my Mustang IV and it emulates the Tom Petty guitar sound pretty well. I can also get other AC-30 tones (The Edge, Brian May, Beatles) with the Liverpool.
I just wish they made a talent boosting pedal. ; )
