I've had a Mustang III since last year and it's been very quiet even with single-coil pickups.

It started to make noisy electric buzz yesterday with all my guitars (humbucker guitars, too). Even when I touch a metal part of my guitars, the electric buzz was there. This happened not only with high gain settings but also with clean settings. It was subdued in the evening, but it came back today. I did the following: (1) I turned off all lights at my home, and (2) moved the amp to different rooms. Still buzzing.

Is it likely that the amp has gone faulty?

Did you try different guitar cables?? It sounds like the shield connection on your cord has gone bad. Also, try plugging/unplugging the cable a few times. That should (kind of) clean off any contamination that may be preventing a good connection.

I've tried 3 different cables. So, either my Mustang III or my home wiring is the problem. Grounds in my eletric outlets are tested fine. I doubt there's some RF interference. RF noise is reduced when the guitar faces a certain direction. That's not the case for me. Interestingly, even with the noise gate set to the max on some patches, I still hear electric buzz. I alway hear periodic crackling noise from the amp.

I don't suppose you have a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) you could hook it up to as a test? That would pretty much rule out the house wiring....

Does the M3 have a headphone out like the M1 and M2? If so, see if the noise is present with the headphones. It won't fix anything but it would at least rule out any issues with the power amp. If the headphone signal is clean then you'll know the problem is in the power amp.

Hi Chrisk-K,

It sounds like a grounding issue of some type has occurred. Has anything changed or have you added anything to your set up in regard to AC powered devices? If you have additional powered speakers, a mixing console or other outboard gear in use, there is always the possibility of a grounding issue occurring. I would suggest that you try to isolate the amp to a separate power circuit and connect the guitar and listen through both the speaker and headphones. Please let us know how it goes. Thanks.
