Looking at the specs on the MIV and MV I noticed that both amps have the same width.

Therefore, it looks like it would be possible to mount an MV chassis into an MIV combo cabinet. It probably wouldn't be useful but it might be fun.

A 150watt 2x12 combo with a couple of Eminence Wizards (or any high sensitivity speaker) and your power chords might bring down low flying aircraft. Not bad for a combo.

Ummm, but that's exactly what a Mustang IV already is? Unless I've misread the specs, I don't think the innards of an MV head have anything more than is already in an MIV?

You're right! Not sure why but I was thinking the M4 was 120 watts. Oh well. Thanks for the correction.

I wonder why Fender created an new designation for the MV. Shouldn't they call the "Mustang V Head" a "Mustang IV Head" since they really are the same amp?

Cheers,

Because the Mustang IV doesn't have speaker outputs to power a separate cabinet. The Mustang V does. It was designed as a more portable version of the Mustang IV in line with a lot of other guitar amplifiers, like Mesa, Peavey, Marshall, Hughes & Kettner, Bogner...do I need to go on? LOL

You can just unplug the head and carry it away separate from the speaker cabinet...or use different cabinets with different speakers.

It's more for the professional/gigging musician who prefers the half-stack over the combo.

All of the internal components between the M4 and the M5 are the same.
