I have owned my Mustang Floor unit for a few months now and love it to bits. The build quality of the floor unit is great. The sounds are Fab, the editing facilities quick and simple. I love it. So why oh why do all these multi-effects floor units (not just Fender) have such fragile power supplies. The plastic transformer is not very robust and the piddly little lead between the transformer and the floor unit is bound to get damaged in constant gigging. Surely it would not affect the price too much to build in proper internal power supplies with robust leads instead of these flimsy plasticy things. Come on Fender, you are the best so don't hold back on quality.

I suppose one good reason for the separate power supply is to keep mains voltages away from the floor unit - both for safety and to avoid mains hum/interference. Personally, I find the plastic transformers no less rugged than a plastic mains plug. I agree the cables on them are the weak point though - they should be more robust, and replaceable if they break.

TC Electronic did the internal power supply with their Nova System and that is one rugged, great-sounding piece of gear.

I tried a VisualSound 1Spot with a BOSS GT-100. It worked perfectly. The power cable is thicker/longer and the adapter part is very small and connects at the wall instead of in-between. I wonder if that would work with a Mustang Floor?

Any news on an alternative power supply for the Mustang Floor? I will not purchase until I know I can use a better power supply. Both heavier duty and a longer run without the brick in the middle.

Fender have now made the original power supply available as a spare part, see this topic (amongst others):

I believe you can order direct from Fender or your local Fender retailer should be able to get it.

Obviously this doesn't solve the problem of "heavier duty" - it just means you can replace the original if it gets broken.

As for a longer cable run, I guess one would just have to use a normal mains extension lead...

I haven't seen anyone post any details of a specific compatible third-party power supply yet. Although such a thing will exist, these are all reasonably generic power supplies. It's just a case of noting the specs of the Fender one (connector size and polarity, voltage and current rating, etc) and searching electrical suppliers. Or, find one that has the required voltage/current and simply solder-on whatever size end-connector the M-Floor takes.
