I'm about to buy a Mustang Floor. I will mostly be using it to play through the PA at church. I will want to be playing/practicing with it at home. Price is a consideration (the Mustang Floor has pretty much used up my budget for this project), but I want something that sounds good enough to be fun to play through and not like I am playing through a transistor radio. Any suggestions?

Just want to be sure you realize that the Mustang Floor is not an amp, so you can't just connect speakers to it. You need a power amp between the Mustang Floor and your speakers, just like the PA at your church.

Seems like a good choice to me.

Maybe I don't understand, but it seems silly to run a modeling pedal into a modeling amp -- I have a Mustang II so I suppose I could use that.

But I think I saw a thread a while back where people were running the Floor into powered speakers. I will see if I can find that.

[quote]Should be no issue running my Floor directly in to 2 Rokit 5, 6 or 8's right?

They are powered, have a variety of inputs including XLR's..
Seems like it might make for a good stereo setup in a bedroom?

Anyone else tried a floor directly in to powered monitors like these?

Thanks,

Don't know if I quoted right, but I got the impression that the writer was talking about a direct to speaker connection. Those are more than I wanted to spend, though....

I suppose that if worst came to worst, I could use the headphone jack and plug it into my computer and use my computer speakers?

If you have a mustang II then you're all set. You could run your mustang floor into the aux input.

That makes sense. The aux input on the Mustang 2 seems a little flimsy for regular use, though.

I usually keep an extension cord plugged into the aux and then plug into that so I can cut down on the wear and tear of the aux in. It does seem to be a weak link.

It also might not sound so bad plugging your mustang floor into the guitar input. I think Fender even recommends that in the Mustang floor manual. It's worth a try before you buy something new.

Sounds like a good suggestion.

Hi Guys,

With the Fender Mustang Floor unit, you have a few different options. You can connect it to a guitar amp directly (i.e. instrument input) or you can connect it to an effects return/amp input and the use the amp as a power section only. If you are going to connect the Mustang Floor to the instrument input on your amp, you will want to turn the output level on the back panel of the Mustang Floor down and bring the level back up to the point where you have the input level needed on the amp.

If you are going to connect the Mustang Floor to an effects return or amp input on the amp, that will be a line output to line input and will allow you to use the modeling and effects on the Mustang Floor or you can bypass the modeling on the Floor (press the Amp button) and use it as a dedicated effects unit and expression pedal. Please let us know if we can assist further.

Thanks, Alan. But since my main application use of the floor will be to play through a PA, where I will want the Amp modeling, I will most of the time want to practice where I am getting the amp modeling from the Floor (and not getting two levels of modeling like I will through the main input to the Mustang 2 (which is my only amp), since the amp modeling on the Mustang 2 does not have a bypass). I haven't bought the Floor yet, but probably will next month, and I am trying to understand how it might work in my situation.

Hi Ovangol2,

So, for this type of usage, you would likely want to use the balanced XLR outputs and monitor your guitar through your monitors. This will depend on what type and level of monitoring system you are using. But this is the general direction I would suggest. Please let me know if I can assist further.

If budget is a concern, and if you want a 'neutral' amp so you're getting just the modelling of the Mustang Floor, then...

If you have a home hi-fi, why not just connect the Mustang to a spare line-in or aux-in socket on that?

Failing that, a pair of active monitors would seem the most suitable thing to buy.
