Hi J. Mayfield,

So, can you give a bit more detail (perhaps a Preset number)? And which amp specifically do you have? It may be that you are in a Preset with an amp model that is a high-gain style model and already has a large amount of Gain applied. Thanks.

I have a Mustang I. And you could be correct with the assumption that my presets does not allow a change in gain. I am using '57 Deluxe.

The 57-Deluxe modell should have very different sounds from very clean to mid gain. If you really don't hear a difference in turning the gain knob I see three possibilities:

- you have a serious hearing problem ;)
- your Mustang has a serious problem
- you have an overdrive- or fuzz-stompbox with strange settings in your preset

What are you hearing, is it a clean or dirty sound?

The only model that I couldn't really get to distort without a stomp in front was the Twin.
It did sound kinda cool though - kind of "angry" but clean.... OK that goes in the "weird but kinda cool" department.

O.

Hi J. Mayfield,

You should be hearing a distinct difference with Presets that have the '57 Deluxe as the assigned model. If you are on a Preset on your amp that shows a '57 Deluxe, it is possible that a different amp was assigned to it in Fender FUSE, in which case it would not actually be the '57 Deluxe but actually whichever model that Preset was updated to.

For example, the '65 Twin Reverb model does not have as much impact when the Gain is increased. So you may want to check this out as well. Please let us know how it is going and if we can assist further.

If it is assigned to a different preset by Fuse how do I know what it is?

Hi J. Mayfield,

If you had used Fender FUSE to change a Preset, you would have selected the different amp model and it would show up in the Fender FUSE software when the amp is connected and adjusted to that specific Preset. We would be happy to assist further. If you would like, please give us a call and we can assist from there.

Thanks Alan. No I have not used the Fuse software yet. I will get back to you in the next few days. I will fiddle around with it in the meantime.

One other thing to consider. I find that on some presets to get distortion from the gain I have to have the volume on guitar loud. If you don't have enough signal coming out from guitar you won't get the full effects from the amp.

Hi Ovangol2,

Keep in mind that the behavior of the amp will be directly affected by the guitar that is connected to it. So, if you have a lower output guitar, you may need to do some adjusting on the stock Presets so that they are better tailored for your specific guitar.

Agreed. I have a MIM strat with replacement fender vintage noiseless PUPs, which I think I read were low output and may be installed on the low side (though I would not know what is normal). As a result, I need to keep the guitar volume between 6-7 and 10, depending on the pre-set, to get the best response from my Mustang 2.

Hi Ovangol2,

You might want to give our Consumer Relations guys a call on the pickup height issue. They are very knowledgeable and I believe can guide you in terms of correct recommended pickup height for your guitar. And please let us know if we can assist further.

For all intents and purposes, turning down your guitar's volume is sonically the same as turning down the gain on the amp.
