So I posted a query here a while back, asking whether or not anyone had tried running a Mustang Floor into a DRRI. Since, I bought a Mustang Floor, and have been experimenting with it running into the non-reverb channel on the DRRI. It sounds pretty darn good. With my Highway One Telecaster, it's a little "loud," meaning I get 60 cycle hum, but with the American Deluxe Strat, it's quiet. It seems to work better using an amp model along with the effects, as the Mustang Floor is NOT true bypass, it definitely colors the signal going into the amp, with the the amp models turned off as well as the effects. So, it sounds good, is easy to record with, and it's really quite a small investment for all one gets. Also, there's no loud hissy sound that is sometimes the result of running a buffered pedal into an amp.

Also, an added feature is.. you can play bass through the Mustang Floor into a DRRI and get a really good sound, not to mention I did some recording using Garageband.

Hi senggedorje,

Thanks for the update on your new set up. It sounds like it is working out well. The Fender Mustang Floor does have the ability to bypass the modeling by pressing the Amp button. And you may have tried this, but it also has a variety of output Voicings. You migh have a look at pages 7-8 in the Advanced manual for the Mustang Floor. Please let us know if we can asist further.

Hi Allan:

I'll play with that further, but turning the amp voicing off on the Mustang Floor didn't leave me liking the tone I got out of the amp. But... I will try it again and fiddle with the voicings as you suggested, as I didn't try that before. Thank you very much for the tip.

Hi Allan:

I tried it and fiddled with the output voicings, and the volume or output control on the "left out" jack and discovered that there is a way to bypass the models, get good tube amp tone, and use just the effects pedals. I really appreciate the customer support Fender provides for their products. Thanks!

Hello Gang,
Interesting that I should have run into this thread since I still have a pair of silver face Twin Reverbs that I'm thinking about getting one of these floor models for. (ca. 1971, 1972) It sounds like I might be able to get some very similar quality tones and effect combinations like I'm getting from my Cyber Deluxe/Vibrolux Reverb setup. I'm hopeful that the fact that I'm using these old amplifiers will not prove problematic with a floor pedal like this.
By the way, in the video demo for the floor model, about 3 minutes into it, a man in a green striped shirt is playing an awesome looking Stratocaster! Does anyone know what that model is or if it is still available?

Thank you

Hi HarleyHexxe,

You should have several options here. Depending on which amp you are using, you can connect the Fender Mustang Floor to a guitar/instrument input (keep the output level knob on the back panel down until you get an idea of the output level you need from the Mustang Floor into your amp).

The other method would be connecting the Mustang Floor to an amp (post) input or effects return on the amp so as to use the power section there and the modeling on the Mustang Floor. There are also some nice output 'voice' or tone settings on the Mustang Floor so you can adjust the output to best match the hardware/system you are connecting to. Please let us know if you have further questions.

Hi Alan,
Thank you for your quick reply. With the silver face Twins, I can only plug into the instrument inputs since these don't have effects loops. They are 40+ years old, but still pumping great tube tones!
There is the other idea I have about using the Mustang Floor into the effects loop of the Cyber Deluxe/Vibrolux Reverb rig that I use, but I'm not sure I'd be able to get the stereo effects that I'm getting now. If you refer to the archives on the Cyber Deluxe, and reference the Expansion Out from that amplifier, you'll see how my Vibrolux is connected to the Cyber Deluxe. There is only a mono send and return in the Cyber Deluxe. My idea is to program four basic amp tones in the CD, and use the 4-button foot switch to access them, and use the Mustang Floor for the effects. The Mustang appears to offer greater flexibility for manipulating the effects than the Cyber Foot Controller that I'm currently using, but I may not get the stereo panning in this setup. This is why I'm considering using the old Twins instead.

Harley
