I know this may sound funny but I'm a beginner and i have a MUSTANG 1 amp. I cant figure out how to use the built in tuner. I get lost with the letters (#,G,F,E,D,C,B,A). Maybe someone could give me a tip how to use this tuner perfectly?
Thanks.

The other three lights above the MOD dial are your tuner. The 8 preset LEDs tell you what note you're closest to.

Your strings should be as such (from highest-pitch string to lowest-pitch):

E
B
G --> bridge
D
A
E

These are to be tuned at 440A pitch. The three LEDs above the MOD dial are <X X X> (red, green, red).

If the left red LED is lit alone, then you're tuning is FLAT of the note that shows on the preset lights. If the right red LED is lit, you're SHARP.

If the center green LED is lit, you're at the proper pitch.

So you pluck the open string, make sure it's marked at the right letter, then look at the three lights to see if you need to tune it up (because it's flat) or tune it down (because it's sharp) until the light turns green and neither red LED are lit.

Do this for all 6 strings so that the pitch letters match what I wrote above for your 6 strings. Your guitar should then be in tune.

Hi Guys,

Thanks FFXIhealer for your contribution here. Barsky287, you can also check the Advanced Fender Mustang User Manual via the link below. It has detailed information for using the Tuner. Please let me know if I can assist further.

Thanks guys !
Thanks a ton, lets see that I've got it right > If I want to tune the Low E, I make sure the led is on the E leter and than make sure in the XXX area is green ?
For the both E strings I have to chose the same E letter , right ? So this means that no C and F and # should be used ?
________________________________________________________________________
I still can't get it to sound right, I even blew my hight e string. Lucky I had a one in case.
How can i be this stupid not to tune my guitar ?
Could someone please tell Step By Step (for really stupid me) how to get guitar tuned using the Fender Mustang 1 built in tuner?
________________________________________________________________________
Im not sure but, I have noticed that even if I tune a string in a few strokes it detunes again. Maybe all this tuning problem goes from the bridge ? Because I have noticed that in few mounths the bridge got higher of the guitar body, and the 6 screws came up a bit "unscrewed".

Hi Barsky287,

It sounds like you may have ended up trying to tune your high E an octave too high. At any rate, you should see the note you are tuning on the amp/tuner through the 6 strings. If you are substantially flat or sharp of the target note, the amp/tuner will see your current string as the next note down or up from your target note. You might want to check out the link below for some additional information on guitar tuning. And let me know if we can assist further.

I tried to tune by the diogram on the right side on the link , by the (1) I tuned high E and B but for G i had to go to G# and it coused a lot ot screwing and the bridge went up from the body, detuning the strings i tuned before !
Whats wrong ? I was tuning without pressing any frets down (on open strings), maybe thats the problem.
Sorry for my bad grammar. English is not my native, but I realy want to know more about my instrument and about how to tune it properly!

So far I was trying to tune the standart way EBGDAE, and i succeed in tuning the E B and G high strings and tuned the D string. I also tuned the lower strings A and E but I had to let them loose and when I gallop I can see how BIG the vibrations are on the two strings. Is it normal ? (The tuner says that they are in tune)

It also shows me that after a few hits on the string, the strings get sharper ( according to the 3 LED's) Over all atleast the higher strings sound perfectly, i just want to knock about the lower strings.

Hi Barsky287,

It sounds like you are running into some real challenges here. I would suggest that you go to a music store in your are that has a good guitar technician and have them do a setup on your guitar and show you a little more about tuning. Please let me know how it goes.

Cheers,

I had a Yamaha strat look-alike and when changing strings, or detuning to say drop-D, I always had to tune all strings many times before it was right (5-10 times). When changing the string tension a lot, them trem would move and cause all strings to detune. Just keep tuning to standard pitch over and over, and it should be fine after some iterations. Also, if I changed the strings to some more heavy ones, the trem would go totally out of the body and make everything useless. Then I decided to block the trem, and it was like getting a new guitar!

Stratocaster-style guitars with a tremolo tend to pull out-of-tune when you use thicker strings and tune to higher notes. The only way to combat this is to tighten the tremolo strings by screwing the spring claw in further. This is found on the back of your guitar when you take off the rear cover plate. The further in those screws are, the more tension the springs there have and the harder they pull on the tremolo block. The harder they pull on the tremolo block, the more the tremolo pulls AGAINST the string tension, allowing the guitar to stay in pitch better.

Personally, I don't use the tremolo ever, so I have it locked down pretty hard with 5 springs and a tight claw setting. I even took the whammy bar off and stuck it in my gig bag. Like I said, I never use it so why bother with it? I do string bending a ton more than I dive bomb. And I'm so used to playing my Les Pauls that there's no point.

But now i tuned the strings. I tuned the lowest strings (A,E) i think in a lower pitch (if I understand the word right. English is not my native) Now it sounds realy good ! The only thing that I just want to know, is about the lower strings. They sound good but just in lower pitch they are tuned and thats why the vibrations are bigger, right ?

Here's and example. I succeed in tuning and I wanted to try them out by playing Nothing Else Matters intro. It sounded pretty good ! The power cords on the lower strings sound good too !
