I just realized that i may never have shared my findings on volume settings on the Mustang.

ANTIFACT

At the beginning i manage my volumes on the mustang like i used to do on my L6 products:

i set to an high level my clean channel patch and balance the volume of the dirt/high gain channels to the clean ones

i sorted out with a clean channel at 8-10 and 6-8 fot the overdrived channels...

THE PROBLEM

this gives me 2 issues:

usb recording was a bit "confused" and "undefined"

i was unable to control the master volume: it was too sensible! in passed from not enough volume to too much volume with a light touch of rotation

THE ANALYSIS

When i recorded i started to lower volume for the channel and then i understand:

while L6 channel volume act "digitally" with no change in the tone, the mustang channel volume act more like a real amp: the more you push it the more it changes, act differently

THE SOLUTION:

I set the volume for my overdrive channels at 4 and then balanced the clean to them

THE FINAL RESULT:

1 - better recording

2 - a good fine tuning of the master volume

Hi mordor74,

It sounds like you are getting the tones you want at this point. It is interesting that you are hearing differences in the channel Volume settings. The Gain is the spot where you should be hearing the tone differences. But as long as you are getting the tones you want, all is well.

One other option is to use our USB Gain feature. This option allows you to add up to 24db of output level to the USB digital output. Of course you should not normally need nearly that much additional gain. But it is a handy adjustment when needed. To access this feature, press and hold the Exit button on your amp and turn the channel Volume knob to the desired output level while recording is armed in your DAW. Please let me know if I can assist further.

Hi, iv done this 3x and it just makes the amp speaker louder.

What I need is a good volume in my DAW with out getting blasted by the amp, or im right back where I was at with my loud tube amps.

Can I make the Mustang II volume come out my DAW monitors for recording?

Perhaps I need to just keep playing with the hold Exit turn volume again?

PS: My daw is recording at 0db on the mustang track.

thanks,

i think that usb volume and "amp/preset" volume are not interchangeable. the second one may affect the tone like a change of volume affect the tone in a real amp....

I got it almost dialed into my DAW.

Deal is turn "Master" off with the tips provided above.

The only thing I do not like is ever DAW makes you go into the preferences to choose the USB interface. IF you have a main sound card then fender USB wont appear unless you change it from the DAW audio preferences. Time consuming!

Posting update on my "Installing mustang" into my DAW.

I uninstalled the fender ASIO and installed the ASIO4ALL.
Then I changed the latency to 1024 on the mustang and then 1024 on my studio monitor out.

~THEN~ I went back and held EXIT and dialed in the volume knob to dial in the USB out into my DAW. (All along with the Mustang master on zero)

This is almost working, I did get a buffer under run as my DAW counts errors.

More testing!

Hi Guys,

I wanted to chime in here. This looks like a general discussion about DAW setup as much as it is about the Fender Mustang amps. So, a couple of thoughts - the Master volume on the amp does not affect the USB output. The USB Gain function as mentioned here is the ideal way to adjust the USB output level of your amp for recording. Depending on how hot of an input signal you want, you can easily get your output quite hot. But you do want to be sure to leave some headroom in your input level so as not to run into digital overs (peaking over 0dbfs).

In regard to buffer settings and interface selection, again this is something that is universal for DAWs and ASIO as an audio standard driver for Windows. I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if we can assist further.
