I've been experimenting to fake a Mesa Mark IIC+ with the American '90. I found i nice sound with SEG and BIAS to the max so i started reading about BIAS on valve amps, especially Mesa ones...

It tourned out that an higher BIAS warm the sound and a lower BIAS make it raw, so:

1) high BIAS for warm soloing leads

2) low BIAS for cutting edge solos and metal rythm

dont know about clean sound.

Do you agree? How do you use your bias setting?

I set most of mine about 1 oclock, just a little high to get a nice blusey full tone. I also bias my tube amps the same. I also like the sag turned down.

I was curious about this too, I didn't know where to start, thank you!

Especially on the older, Fender amp models, turning down the SAG setting for me seems generally to give a fuller, more 'open' tone, although I guess guitar and pick-ups are also a variable factor.

There is plenty of online info about Bias and Sag on real tube amps - don't know how well the principles can be applied to the modeled versions. Generally I just twiddle until it sounds good to me !

Mine is a fairly neanderthalic approach, but I used max out the bias on pretty much every setting I create, regardless of amp model, whether I'm creating essentially a clean tone or dirty tone. To my ear, it seems to create a crisper tone.

Here is the "final" result of my experiment:

https://fuse.fender.com/mustang/preset. ... alducci-v4

Now i am reversing the approach to get a solid/vanilla/FRFR amp... bias and seg to the low, cab off and see if i can get the neutral sound of the guitar!
