Quick question (or two):

1) Where are the insert points for the Mustang III Effects Loop? Between the pre-amp and power amp? After the power amp? Can a signal be tapped from here for recording (or sound reinforcement), thus leaving the speaker live?
(The Headphone/Line Out Jack disables the speaker when in use).

2) Can I tap off of the speaker spade connectors directly to a direct box, such as the H&K Red Box?

As you can see, I wish to record without a mic, but also wish to keep the Mustang III's speaker active for monitoring purposes.

Use the FX Send. That's part of what it was designed to do according to Fender.

I wouldn't recommend it. Even if you're good with a soldering iron (I wouldn't do it any other way), you'd be doubling up on the Cab Sims - the ones in the amp and the one in the Red Box... unless of course you like that sound. You'd also be voiding your warranty

I'd mic the speaker too. Record FX Send and the mic on two separate tracks and then combine the two signals later during mixdown. Don't forget to pan them hard left and hard right.

O.

Is there documentation for this?

You can tap off the speaker connections without soldering. There are two sets of male push-on connectors on any speaker. No soldering required. One set is connected to the amp. The other set is purposed for daisy-chaining to another speaker in cabs with more than one speaker. In the Mustang III, this second set is, of course, un-connected.

Imagine a cable with one end having female push-ons, and the other having a 1/4" phone plug. The female push-ons connect to the unused connectors on the speaker, and the plug connects the speaker to a D.I. box. I have such a cable.

The Cab Sims can be disabled, both on the amp and the Red Box, so no problems with doubling up on speaker cab simulation.

Thanks for your help.

There is no documentation as far as I know but this is what has been recommended by Alan Willey. He's the one who said that that is what it was designed to do.
The effects send is post amp modeling/cab sims and effects.

Ah, post amps and cabs, etc. That's perfect. Thanks again!
