Well I have tried the floor many ways through many of my amps and the best so far (to my ears anyway) is to plug straight into my Deluxe Reverb reissue. I tried various ways through my '81 twin reverb, Super Sonic 60 w, Dr. Z Maz 18 and right now I'm loving it straight in to the DRRI - input 1 of channel 1. I have the Floor set to combo amp and use a guitar cable out of unbalanced output L (mono). Not sure if it's the Jensen speaker or what. I tweak patch 5 (country deluxe) and also tweaked the basic Supersonic patch. Sounds great. The supersonic patch really rips.

Hi Djstang,

Thanks for sharing the results of your various configuration testing. The Fender Mustang Floor has the balanced outs and unbalanced outs, and they are normally looked at as line outputs. But with that said, connecting to the instrument input on your amp is not a bad thing. The only things you might need to be aware of would be watching the output level on the Mustang Floor and the deciding whether or not you want to have 2 layers of 'amp' tone. And there are of course options there including bypassing the modeling on the Mustang Floor altogether in this application (press the Amp button on the Floor). Please let us know if we can assist further.

I have been using the Mustang Floor mostly for the modulation effects in the effects loop of my amps and it sounds pretty good. I use it for recording straight through my mixer to my DAW. I am waiting for a couple of powered speakers I ordered to come in and I am hoping they sound good with the Mustang Floor. My Mustang V sounded good through my Motion Sound KP-200S, so I figured the Mustang Floor will be the same, only a lot smaller.

That leads me to a couple of questions about the Floor, Alan. Like the Mustang amps, can you turn off the cab sims on the floor so that you're only using the amp models in the Floor as a sort of "pre-eq" or overdrive? Also, I know that you can turn the amp modeling off but that often leads to a lower overall level. This can be problematic if the Floor doesn't have a robust overall output level in the first place. I've found this to be the case on my old Vox Tonelab but my GT-8 can overdrive most mixer inputs. My thinking is that in Djstang's case, he might want to just use the DRRI's own clean sound with just a bit of enhancement from the Floor but no amp models. This will typically produce a lower output level from the Floor. My question is with the amp modeling turned off, is there a way to compensate for the lower output level other than lowering the levels all the other presets he uses? If he does have to lower the levels of the other presets, will the Mustang Floor still have enough output level? On my MII, I can use the compressor with a very low ratio to compensate but it does change the tone a bit. Is that what you'd have to do on the Floor? Maybe a semi-parametric eq with a level control could be added in a future firmware update. It could act as a "clean preamp".

By the way, I am softening my stance a bit of the Floor's less than optimal (in my opinion) placement of the FX loop and it's mainly because of how good my MII sounds.
I would still love to see this little niggle change if possible but I'm slowly coming around to thinking that if it doesn't happen, I might be able to get along with it the way it is. I came to realize that the endless routing possibilities available on my old GT-8 really has spoiled me even though it can't hold a candle to the Mustang sound-wise. I guess I was really hoping to get the flexibility of the GT-8 with the sonics of the Mustangs. Thanks for putting up with my rants.

Sincerely,
Orcatraz.

Hi Orcatraz,

So, the best way to compensate for any loss in output level when bypassing the modeling on the Fender Mustang Floor would be to use the output level control (back panel). When at the 12 o'clock position, it would be considered 0, or full normal. It is possible to add up to an additional 10.5 db of gain from the 12 o'clock position to the max level setting. This should balance out any differences between output levels when bypassing the amp modeling. Thanks.

I see. So, is 0 unity gain and you still have another 10.5db on top of that? If true, that is an admirable amount of practical, useable gain. Kudos and thanks.

Hi Orcatraz,

Yes, at the 12 o'clock position, that is unity gain. And from there you can add up to an additional 10.5 db of gain. Thanks.

I'd like to know if you can have an amp simulation sans cabinet? I intend to drive the front end of a 3x10 Roland Blues Cube live.
