I have a Mustang III that I love. Great great amp. Love the tones I can get out of it. Well for some reason I decided that I wanted a floor modeler to mess around with also. Really I just wanted something new, but I had a million reasons to justify to my wife why I 'needed' it. HA! Anyway, I started with a Boss GT-100. I loved the user interface and how easy it was to use, but just could not get a good tone out of it. To many parameters. I'm sure you can get good tones out of it, but you have to really understand how to use all the EQ effects, not just the EQ on the amp model. So I ended up exchanging it for a Line 6 POD HD500. After another week of twisting knobs and pushing buttons I thought I had some good tones dialed in. Well I plugged back into my Mustang III and realized how much better the tones were I get out of the Mustang, and how much easier it is to get those tones. So back went the HD500 and home came the Mustang Floor. Love it!

I'm hoping I can use the floor to control my Mustang III by bypassing the modeling on the amp and using the modeling via the Floor. I only did a few quick tests with it yesterday, but have a few questions for the Fender team. I'll be giving them a call later today to see if what I'm trying to accomplish will work. Does anyone else out there do this? I tried hooking up the output of the floor to the return of the effects loop on the Mustang. I have the output mode on the Mustang set to PA, but the same patch on the floor and the mustang sound different. I thought it should sound the same this way since I'm bypassing all the modeling on the amp setting it up this way and sending the signal to the amp with all the cab and amp modeling on. Like I said, I only did a quick test. I quickly went through some of the other output options but none that I tried sound exactly the same as plugging directly into my Mustang. I'm hoping with the help of one of the Fender Techs I can get this working.

One thing I really wish the Floor did though was when you push the bank up or down buttons it showed you a list of all the preset names in that bank. Alan or Loren is there an official place to place a request like this?

Thanks guys...

I just called and talked to Alan. Really nice guy, pleasure to talk to. He is going to test out what I was trying to accomplish with the Floor into the Mustang III and talk to some others in a meeting and get back to me. It is quite cool being able to call and talk to them directly....

i also purchased the Floor (for Single & Duo work directly through a PA ) but would like to use it as either just a controller for my III or as the pre-amp for my III. I would be interested in knowing how to configure this as well.

Me too! I want the control of the Floor (as an FX unit) with the power of the Mustang III.

It's almost a shame you can't connect the Mustang Floor up to the Mustang III/IV/V and use it to control the amp such that whatever presets you have in your Floor would be produced by the amp - so you'd plug your guitar straight into the amp and the Mustang Floor would be connected just as a controller...but then you would always have the option of using the Floor separately with the same presets...

Does that make sense??

Totally. Fender if your listening. You need to put out a Mustang controller. Just take everything out of the Floor and leave the switching mechanism (and actually improve the preset access). Sell it for $79-$99. You would clean up. You are missing a HUGE opportunity here.

Fender needs to come up with a USB-powered REAL floor controller for the Mustang series, like the Line 6 floorboard series. This 4-button stuff just isn't cutting it.

I'd proposed the same idea a few months ago, jwoertz, and while I like the idea of having it be USB powered, it may not be possible. As I understand it, power can only come from devices that have a USB "A" connector while USB "B", "Mini B" and "Micro B" connected devices can only receive. The Mustang amps have those flimsy little "Mini B" connectors. Pins 1 & 4 carry the signal and pins 2 & 3 carry the data. Because the Mustang doesn't need power from the computer, I'd bet that pins 1 & 4 are not even used in the Mustang's circuitry. The other thing is that USB only provides 5 volts and typically at an impractically low current. I don't think this makes the idea of a floor controller impossible, it just means that it will have to have its own power source... which is too bad as I'd prefer to have fewer cables running across the stage floor.

Still, if someone could decipher what signals Fuse sends the Mustang to tell it to change patches, someone (not me, I just know enough to be dangerous) might be able to hack an old floor controller for this purpose.

They have half the product in the Mustang Floor already. Just modify it to be just a controller and sell it. The demand IS there!

OK, good point. A couple of AA batteries would be fine.
