Hi, I need to get a volume/expression pedal for my new Mustang 5. Is the Boss FV-500L a good solution? Is the expression mode will be compatible with the amp or should I go with the exp-1, despite of the calibration problem some users have reported here?

If the exp-1 does the job, it will prevent me for running 4 cables to my stereo fx loop.

Why not the Fender EXP-1 which can act as a simple volume/expression pedal or be program to do lots of other things?

I know about the exp-1, that's what I was talking about in my post. I was just worried about the calibration problem that some people reported. Does it do the same job as any other volume pedal? What would be the benefits of the Boss over the Fender exp-1? Is someone aware of an online Canadian shop that sells this? I use to shop at Long-McQuade but they don't have it online and all the local shops here have a 4 weeks wait.

Thanks!

Calibration problem is being address and will not be an issue soon. Yes it acts as any other volume pedal and more. I use it to control the amp gain on several presets, it can act as a Wah pedal, it can control modulation rate and other functions.

Good! one last question though. Ca it control the preset volume while in expression mode? Meaning that I can do volume swells while letting the delay/reverb ring until decay.
Not sure if i' clean enough.

What I don't wan't to do is to control the master volume and cut off everything. Another post was talking about that with the floor unit, I assume it's the same with the exp-1. Just want to confirm with users.

I believe so but have not done so. The pedal always has two modes. A green and red light show which is active. When you press down on the pedal to active the switch it switches between the two modes. Now you can set one of them to nothing and the switch then acts as an on/off switch and the second mode could be assigned to the WAH stopmbox in Fuse, and then the pedal would act just as a traditional WAH does. Or instead of a WAH just let it default to the Volume and it acts as a master volume. Or you could assign it to the AMP and then select the volume and it would act as the volume on the amp. I believe someone already posted here how to set it up so you retain the tails on the echos or reverb.

The great thing about the pedal is you can set say the green mode to volume and the red mode the gain on the AMP, that's how I have most of my presets. Then it can act like a volume pedal in one mode and a gain pedal in the other. You can also control the travel. When I use it to control the gain on the AMP model I have it set so full pedal up has the "gain knob" in the amp model at 40% which gives me a nice crunch for rhythm playing the full pedal down 90% of the gain for leads, gives just enough boost and dirties it up.

You could do the same thing for the volume so all the way doesn't turn it all the way off.

If I got something wrong there guys chip in, I haven't really played much which using it to control just volume.

Interesting. I will try to get one and play with it then. That gear is so hard to get here. I prefer to have only one cable than four running to the amp. Just hoping not to have to deal with the calibration problem.
thanks for your help.

Don't worry about the calibration problem. The EXP-1 and the 4 button footswitch daisy chain, ie you use a short patch cord between the 4 button and the EXP-1 then a cord from the EXP-1 to the amp's 4 button input jack on the back. I also use the 2 button at the same time so I have that cord going to the 2 button jack on the back. Use the supplied cords as they are carrying digital signals to the amp.
